Timeless Slim Head Razors

I'd like to put in a couple of thoughts on the Timeless Slim aggression or harshness thing here. First & foremost, it has to be clearly stated that there are no 2 faces alike in the shave world. There might be similarities and a few nearly identical shave experiences from one shaver to the next but, there is never an exact duplicate in terms of shave experiences. There are just too many variables to consider and list to create a universal shaving standard or "shave commandments" that will work for everyone across the board, it's impossible to be honest. I think we can all pretty much agree on that premise. Many don't like what I'm about to say but, there is no better instance to apply the Your Mileage May Vary (YMMV) rule to shaving.  Think of it as the Singularity in physics when one gets pulled in by a Black Hole and you go past the Event Horizon. All the laws of physics that we know get obliterated since we have no idea what happens beyond that Physical Plane, just educated thoughts, theories and speculation on Time & Space. 

The good thing about our shaving singularities is that we can assess our small but, menacing shaving black holes by a process of eliminating/changing one variable at a time. My suggestion to george1906 would be to change out the Feather blade to a slightly less sharper blade in his collection that exhibits a good trade-off in sharpness for more of a smoother feeling blade and just go from there. It's the easiest and biggest adjustment one can make that can net the biggest improvement by far.

I started with a KAI blade and that blade trumps all other blades in its width providing more feel. Not as sharp as a Feather yet it still gives more feedback as more of the blades edge & bevel is felt on the skin. Subsequently almost all other blades will have slightly less feel compared to the KAI but, not necessarily meaning they won't cut as efficiently and perhaps for some will perform better. Another thing is that for me a Feather blade can exhibit some harshness during its first & second shave. A Feather in my experience hits its stride during my 3rd & 4th shaves with one. It smooths out nicely after the initial one or two shaves. That's just my personal experience with a Feather in any razor regardless of the razors design and shave geometry.

Tonight I'm trying a Gillette Platinum (Black Ninjas) and see how that changes the shave feel over the KAI installed in the Slim....

I now have a few shaves in with my Ti slim SB baseplate, 4 days growth, 2 days growth and one day growth. I used a PermaSharp then Polsilver for the other 2. For me the shave was very smooth with slightly more blade feel than my Ti .95 OC. Efficiency wise it was a bigger step up over the .95. The 2 shaves with longer growth only required 2 passes plus touch up under the jawline, the 24 hour one was just 2 passes and the 2nd pass felt more like a touch up. I am very pleased with the shave but it won’t be one of my daily drivers as it seemed to shave best with a little more growth. I did not get any irritation from any of the shaves, but I did find using a larger angle than I normally use with my Timeless gave the smoothest shave.

Like I stated in my previous post, I went and installed a Gillette Black Ninja in the .50 Slim for yesterday's shave. Not a lot to say except that there was a slight bit less blade feel with the slightest increase in smoothness from the blade & razor combo. The feel was actually quite close to a shave with a .95 SB, it was that close. Now, I'm intrigued and thinking of putting those two against each other and see if there are more similarities than differences in shave feel. 

I shaved last night at about 5:30 pm and I didn't feel a thing until about 8 this morning with the slightest of stubble breaking through along the jawline on both sides. That's about near 14 hours of face feeling smoothness.  Not too shabby if you ask me.

The .95 SB vs .50 Slim SB up next, just out of curiosity for me.

A great, great shave. The Timeless SS Slim .50 & .95 Standard are closer to each other in terms of shave feel and performance than I originally thought. Both though are superb whisker whackers and one can’t go wrong with either one if your looking for perhaps one of the best combinations of smoothness & efficiency in a higher end razor. For me, the Slim .50 ups the ante by an eyelash. The Dragonsbeard V2 shave soap & skin food splash are just a winning combo. Great day and shaves to all...

Not any more so than with the Blackbird. I also didn't really have to be careful with it. It felt like I could shave on autopilot with the SLIM. I was also concerned about an all titanium configuration being too light, but that was not the case. More to come after I've had a few more shaves with it.

Not even close. The BB is one of the most efficient razors out there. The Ti SLIM efficiency is very middle of the road. I found the Ti SLIM SB to be just as smooth as my Ti .95 SB, but its efficiency was closer to that of the Timeless .68 SB. In fact, the overall shave felt pretty similar to the .68, with perhaps a touch more blade feel.
