I had a great shave with the razor. It was very smooth but at the same time I could feel the blade, the blade feel was by no means aggressive. I had to change my angle a bit from what I'm used to, I'm assuming because of the unique head. The design is unlike anything I have. Overall it was a great shave. I didn't slow anything down, and used it like a razor I've used for years, really wanted to put it to the test. The craftsmanship is top notch, like the previous post, the underside of the top cap was not polished. But that's is not a deal breaker for me. The price is on the high end, but this is absolutely a high end razor.

Thanks bakerbarber  and Jasonaudy.   I'm curious to hear how this stacks up to the Wolfman 61. I have almost exclusively been using the 34C for the last 9 months in the hopes of making it on the coveted Wolfman wait list with no success.  So the fact that these look awesome, are available, are made in the USA and are getting good reviews is making me rethink this whole unicorn thing.  Any reason not to get one if I plan on using it for a daily driver?

I have the wolfman 61, I really enjoy it. You can definitely feel the blade more, but it is so forgiving. It's very effective. Usually for me if I have a razor where you can really feel the blade I have to slow down a little and a slight error can develop a weeper. Not the case for me with the wolfman. The timeless 68 is completely different, it is a smooth shave, not quite as effective. They definitely shave completely different. I think with more shaves with it, I will be able to get a full opinion on it. But first impressions were good.

The Timeless .68 is less aggressive than the standard gap Wolfman.

Very close, but they are a different feel.

I agree with Jasonaudy that the blade feel with Timeless is satisfying. It is unusual in that it's mild despite not really looking or feeling quite like it.

Great thread, gentlemen!

I got the mild (.68) Scalloped Base for the TR a few days ago, with traveling, today was the first time I've gotten to use it.

I put the base on the scalloped head, with a new Feather Platinum FHS.

The shave, for me, was much different than the same razor with the .95mm base.

I found the .95 base more 'efficient', more 'aggressive', and after 2 passes, WTG, XTG, I was pretty much done. Some touchup, and a shave between DFS and BBS.

However, there was a bit more redness than I like, even though pressure was very light throughout the shave.

This morning, I knew I wanted BBS+, and I sensed that the milder plate would be a good fit.

I did three full passes and thorough touchup.

The first pass was less 'efficient' than the .95 base, but, more comfortable. I found none, zero, irritation or redness after the 3rd pass. Just about everything was gone. I put up a thicker mix for the touchup, and went after every last bit. The .68 base allowed me to do all of this blading with zero irritation, and a shave that made my face feel like polished marble.

I may try a 'milder' blade in the razor with the .95 base (I'm thinking GBS or Voskod) but I use Feathers almost exclusively, so I'm open to suggestions on this.

Bottom line is both bases performed really well, the .95 base is fully capable of a 2 pass DFS, while the .68 base allowed me to do more passes, touchup, etc., with no irritation.

Here's the way the base came, typical very nice packaging from Doug@Timeless and the crew at Timeless:

Here are a couple of closeups with the .95 base on the left under the plain cap, and the .68 base on the right with the scalloped cap:

I am really interested in trying the .95 now. I skipped shaving yesterday and used the timeless again. It was just so smooth.

Restitutor Orbis
Didn't know they put that 6T8 on the side. Nice touch. Sometime this year, this will be in my den.

I'll let the old wallet breath for a little bit.

So this is less blade gap than a 34c?

There's more to razor aggression than blade gap.

I think it's a touch more efficient than the Merkur 34c.

I honestly don't know what the exact measurements are of the Merkur. I'm sure they're available online somewhere though.

It's really hard for me say one way or the other how they directly compare. I haven't used my 34c in quite some time. The Timeless has more blade feel and I'd say holds the blade stiffer. Those two factors I think cancel each other out along with the distance from the safety bar being a bit more with the Timeless I suspect.

The whole topic of razor geometry is complex. I have said before that it confuses me. Especially the different terms I have seen different people use in discussing the various attributes that make different razors perform differently.

The gap, the angle, the exposure, the finish, the weight, the phase of the moon. I go cross eyed just trying to take it all in.

I mean I enjoy looking at pictures and reading the basics.

It all can give me an idea of the razor and whether it may be something I'll like. I have been way wrong before and after it's all said and done, I have to try for myself sometimes.

I have a pretty good idea of what won't work for me. Which is why I didn't jump on the .95 Timeless. Also why after reading reviews I've not picked up a Blackbird. Not my style is all. I have tried the 2011 R41 when it first came out. Didn't need to try the other version two years later. I have had an Eclipse Red Ring. Not for me either. Like I know not to buy the AT&T 'H' bottom plates.

I wouldn't get hung up on just one metric is what I'm getting at.

The .68 Timeless is less 'aggressive' than some razors. It's more aggressive than others. For me it is toeing the line of what I like without crossing it. It's a combination of characteristics though. Smoothness, efficiency, feedback...

Truly different strokes for different folks.

I am going to get a lot more shaves under my belt with it and try to reflect. I have to get past the Honeymoon stage and see if it's still got me smitten. I have been guilty of puppy love before. I am loving the looks and style and I am happy with the efficiency and comfort so far. So unless I have a surprise in some way I can't anticipate I'm not planning on leaving the Timeless on the shelf very often.

I enjoy mixing up and switching through my rotation.

I have to break out my Merkur now and refresh my memory.
