Timeless new 68 head

Ordered one yesterday, already received a shipping notification. That was quick, can't wait to try it out.

Mine arrived today.

I'm not sure what to say yet since I really have to shave with it first to get a feel.

First impressions:

Excellent packaging and labeling. Great presentation.
However, I didn't love the sealed plastic bags. I do dig it. I don't love it because I was worried about scratching the razor and stand cutting it out. Minor threat. I tempered my excitement and enthusiasm and opened everything carefully. Nice to see for certain that everything is 100% brand new and unopened. Not just laying around or wrapped in a cocktail napkin. Not that I personally care about things like this. I am mentioning it for those that are curious. Entire box wrapped in foam and carefully packed up in a form fitting shipping box. No rattling or clanging. Some thought went into this. Attention to detail of the unboxing. A good sign. Almost feels like opening a new cell phone.

The head looks great. Surprisngly hefty in person. No problem for me. The handle is large. Longer than any other OEM handle I have. The total package absolutely looks heirloom quality without question. Something that is going to last longer than I will. The stand fits like a glove. Deep and secure. This razor isn't going to topple over easily with a nudge. The stand is not as broad as it is tall. Takes up very little space and is well proportioned to the razor overall.

The handle is different. Not sure how much I will like the length. I tend to rest my pinky finger on the end of the handle when shaving. I have big mits so the length and weight isn't really a concern for me. It will just be different. Nothing wrong with different. I'm in. It does feel thin. It's 100mm long. At that length 14mm girth does break away from what I am used to. I would have been complaining about the weight though if was much thicker though I suppose.

The head is finished like a mirror on the outside of the cap. The base plate is mirror polished on the bottom and top. The inside of the top cap is not polished. I don't know if it's just the way they are or mine slipped through unpolished. Not important to me. Assembled it is not seen. As long as it doesn't attract rust and tea stains I don't really know that I would knock off any beauty points here.

The handle is flawless from what little time I spent oogling it earlier. I didn't go over it and inspect the entire thing with a lot of attention as I was being summoned to dinner.

I will say that the handle clearly isn't polished on all surfaces. It has geometric facets at the top and the middle. You can see on their website. These flat areas have an attractive raw cut tooling vibe going on. I like it. Gives it depth and character in a utilitarian way that says this is clearly a man's razor. Sort of an industrial nod without coming off as steam punk.

Really a nice overall mix of contemporary art and a purposeful nod to the razors that came before it as well. Seems familiar and disruptive at the same time. I like it.

The threads on the head spin easily into the handle. The top of the handle is substantial and wide. It's not going to fit on every other razor out there. Think Weber and Gillette New. The top end doesn't want to be on any other razor I think. It is what it is and seems boldly confident in its presence. Impressive.

The threads are not buttery smooth. A Wolfman feels like it has zero friction spinning on. The Timeless isn't stiff or rough. It will take a deliberate turn to assemble and disassemble. One of the little things that I have only seen a Wolfman do that makes me smile every time. No knock on Timeless here either.

So, I didn't take pictures. I am heading to bed now too. So I can get up and shave with my new .68 scalloped head timeless in the morning.

Honestly was not going to post again until after a week or so.

The following is strictly my opinion. I have not received any remuneration for my honest and unbiased review.

Like everything else I use. I bought this razor.

One shave in.



I was in a hurry this morning. Huge rush.

Last night I had set up my Timeless with a new Personna 74. I was thinking of switching the blade I had in my reduced gap Wolfman with one shave on it but in a moment of child like enthusiasm thought now was as good a time as any to go with a fresh blade. Meh. I should have gone with my first thought.

So, I jump into the shave as I'm trying to get out of the door quick and run an errand on the way to work.

I am shaving when it occurs to me that I have over half of my first pass done and haven't rinsed the razor yet. Then it occurs to me that I'm using my new razor! Dang...

I would say that is a good sign. I mindlessly shaved half of my face and didn't realize that I was using a different razor until I noticed lather wasn't running down my hand.

The .68 so far is great first shave in.
The fresh blade was a little less than ideal. I was expecting that. In fact I had intended to go slow and steady and pay attention. Life got in the way. Which is probably telling. I didn't do anything that I don't normally do. The shave was great. No cuts or nicks. No irritation.

I am impressed with the extra deep channels that hold whiskers and lather. The handle is longer than I'm accustomed to but not long enough to register immediately.

I shower shave and found the grip secure and comfortable.

The angle is different from other razors of similar performance. Handle much more vertical to engage the desired blade feel. I did feel the blade. At no time did I really feel like I was in danger of losing control. The feel is much gentler than it would seem based on appearance alone.

I would say overall it shaves very much like a Weber. Aside from the different looks and angle of attack, the feel during the shave and the amount of stubble between passes did immediately really remind me of the Weber.

Effective and comfortable with just a hint of blade feel. I doubt many could get away with a one pass shave with this razor. I did three passes and a touch up. The full third pass was purely for fun. I expect moving forward to be good with two passes and a touch up, in my problem areas like my cleft chin and the corners of my jaw line. I'll know more tomorrow.

Again. Only one shave in.

I have to say that I am impressed. The razor seemed to glide. I have had issues with highly polished razors skipping and dragging before. The scalloped head seems to break this mystical force and effect making the issue a mute concern.


The elephant in the room though.


It's not cheap.

The Weber felt similar and while not as stylish, was close to half the cost when new and available. Obviously not the same manufacturing process or aesthetics. If we're strictly talking function over form, then you be the judge.



I have to get a lot more shaves from it and try some of my more preferred blades.

Initial impressions from me are that if you want an everyday shaver and you prefer that your razor is capable of doing the job even if you're half asleep without risking a layer of skin, AND you can comfortably afford the luxury, run - don't walk - and go get yourself the .68 Timeless razor.

I have a feeling that I'll be hanging on to mine...

I wish I didn't adopt so early as the milder head would be more to my liking. I will say, however, that the original, more aggressive head if I am mindful shaves comfortably and close. My beard hair is coarse, and skin sensitive, which is a tough combo with more aggressive razors. I can't drop the cash on a new head right now. If they offered a discount for early adopters, I would be in. Kudos on the pick up, and enjoy the shaves!

I'm receiving mine tomorrow, was thinking about skipping shaving today but couldn't resist. I have the standard .61 wolfman and I'm interested in comparing the two. I didn't go with the scalloped head but choose the same handle. Nice review
