Thoughts on Wolfman WR1 .54 SB?

To be honest I've never had an issue with Wolfman razors skipping or tugging at any gap. Yes the .48 cuts the hair easily for me. I'm guessing you are shaving daily with the .95, so the .48 shouldn't be troubled at all. Not sure I'd use it for 3-4 days growth with the modest gap but haven't actually tried to.

The .48 gets zero love and blows so many razors out of the water.  I took a test drive holiday season 2019 and to date I haven’t gotten that plate out of my head.  

I really enjoy the .54 so much that I’m going with the Baller Edition on my next build (satin everything).  I don’t get the upgraded pieces until I know that’s the one.  The rest of the equipment is just visiting….

I received my first Wolfman razors in January of 2016 when 'Things were different', directly from James and with only a couple of options and getting the two razors (.61 SB and .61 OC). Since then. I have gone through MANY different Wolfman razors and gaps (Sometimes more than once), both WR1 and WR2. My technique and , skill level, as well as other factors (Such as making a better lather) have 'evolved'.

What I find interesting in this Thread is the recent Post (Chart) regarding blade gap and exposure. I don't want to de-rail this thread, but I recently obtained a Tatara Muramasa Adjustable DE razor and after looking at the Tatara Table/Chart regarding Blade Gap/Blade Exposure, I now see some similarities between the two Charts AND the way the razors shave. The Tatara Muramasa has 5 Levels (which are rather infinite since there are no stops, so you can have (for example) not only Level 1 and Level 2, but 1.35 and more).

Levels 1 & 2 are very smooth and mild, and (as the gaps and blade exposure go up, from negative (-0.17) to positive (+0.17) to less smooth and more aggressive. Similar to the WR1 from .48 gap and 0.02 blade exposure to .86 gap and +0.25 mm blade exposure.
Some say that the Muramasa is 'Too Mild', but (as you can see on the charts) it really can be pretty aggressive, which I find to be the case!

For a few shaves, every other day, I had been using a WR2 1.25 OC. Today I used a WR1 0.86 OC 3rd use of a Wizmet and MDC lather. Great shave. I like either gap with either head, and I don't prefer one over the other. YMMV.

Hmm, sounds aggressive. Could be too much blade feel for the OP. Didn't know that they offered the SB version never mind the DC option.

ExtraProtein gave you some great advice. Personally I would go for the .54 OC over the SB. I enjoy the smoothness of the open comb but have the DC.

It depends on what you are trying to achieve: if your goal is comfort and smoothness I would actually recommend the .48 SB over the .54 SB. It may not be the high efficiency option but the .48 definitely has less blade exposure (basically neutral) where the .54 is the same as .61 and even .67 (+0.10mm). That said I don't find the .61 or .67 at all aggressive (both are OC).

I do own the 0.95 WR2 but I'm using it less and less.

I had to vouch on this this one .54 is smooth Shaver I like it a lot   and extraprotein Recomended me this one I got my in DC.

Now I have WR2 in 1.15 sb & .95oc very nice shaves smooth as well.

I’ll try to get another baseplate .48 to see how it is comparable to .54.
