Thoughts on Wolfman WR1 .54 SB?

Thanks everyone so far! I definitely didn't realize the blade exposure differences so I appreciate you all pointing that out. While its not a Wolfman, I just shaved with the Razorock Aluminum Lupo. Its a pretty close shave but it felt different than my WR2 - like more of the blade bevel was touching my skin causing it to be a little dragging. It wasn't necessarily harsh but it was a little more uncomfortable than my WR2. I had to go very steep ATG to make it feel comfortable.

Can any of you describe the different "feel" between the WR1 and WR2?

I think you captured the difference in feeling pretty well with the Lupo (wr1). They are both great--but different--once you are fully used to them. I enjoy both on different days.

Glad you are finding it helpful Max (and others). When I bought my first WR1 there was next to no information out there so very happy to share. These are calculations but having used .48 to .67 and .80 I reckon they are pretty accurate. I don't own all the gaps in the chart! Didn't even bother with .94 as I know I won't be getting one.

Blade feel is constant with the WR1 even with the likes of the .54 gap. It's not aggressive but it is there. It doesn't disappear like with the WR2 0.95. The closest for feel is absolutely the mildest .48 which is incredibly smooth but still not the same as the WR2.

I like the smaller profile of the WR1. If you enjoy razors like Tatara, Carbon, Charcoal Goods I'd recommend the WR1. If you are looking for something with much reduced, muted or even no blade feel stick to the WR2.

I have a total different experience between WR1 and WR2. For me the WR1 up to .67 (OC and SB) feels extremely smooth with minimal blade feel. Just perfect. Once I get into the .74 I get a much more pronounced blade feel with loss of smoothness. The .80 starts getting too much for me in terms of blade feel. However I have zero issues using a WR2 in 1.35 or even 1.45. Yes it also has blade feel but it feels much smoother and has a total different feel to it. Bottom line, blade feel between WR1 and Wr2 are totally different for me and each have a different vibe to them. Everyone has their own experience and as much as one can try get to an answer by asking the only way is to try it out yourself. Unfortunately that takes, time, patience and funds.

Agree with Max. I mean the blade feel although very slight and smooth is there for each pass. With the WR2 I find it reduces for each pass.

The .80 is deceptively smooth and I prefer the lower gaps because of this. Hoping my .74 arrives this week so I can compare against my .67.

Everyone has their own experience and as much as one can try get to an answer by asking the only way is to try it out yourself. Unfortunately that takes, time, patience and funds.

These comments were particularly helpful. I wasn't sure how to describe it before now, but you are right - with the WR2 the blade "disappears" for me. And with the Lupo (WR1-like), its there but not aggressive like a large gap Karve or Timeless .95 (those felt harsh immediately for me).

This really has me thinking of the .48 as you mentioned it is the closest for feel. Do you notice that the .48 "cuts" differently than the wr2 0.95 or are they equal? I know some people call it efficiency, but I am not sure if that is what I mean. I just notice some razors can just easily cut (especially atg), with out skipping / tugging / etc. Thank you again for your thoughtful comments.

ETA - I don't have any of the other razors you mentioned but I look at the Carbon and its looks like almost the same design as a WR1 to my eye!

To be honest I've never had an issue with Wolfman razors skipping or tugging at any gap. Yes the .48 cuts the hair easily for me. I'm guessing you are shaving daily with the .95, so the .48 shouldn't be troubled at all. Not sure I'd use it for 3-4 days growth with the modest gap but haven't actually tried to.
