I LOVE the .54 gap, smooth as silk, brilliantly efficient for ME. I get stupid with my .54 and speed shave like a madman. It’s efficient and forgiving. After the .54 nothing is this smooth again for ME until .80, but this thread is about you
The WR2, different animal than the WR1. Many ppl LOVE the WR2, I don’t. The most bang for my buck has come from the WR1. But that doesn’t mean it won’t be awesome for YOU. If you go the WR2 route, stick to the .95 - 1.05 area to kinda sorta replicate a similar shave gap instrument
I have a question for you to address your question: If you have never used a .54, why are you only looking at a SB plate? Why aren’t you looking at a Dual Comb and essentially getting two different razors in one? A .54 SB plate is a repetitive plate, you get the SAME thing on both sides. You’ve said your beard lies flat against your skin, wouldn’t an open comb on your first pass help with some initial “lift?”
Let’s pretend you order a DC in .54 on both sides and you LOVE only the Open Comb side? The day you receive your first razor in the mail is the day you went back online, filled out the form again and got back in line. You’re not getting called upon again for 6-9 months. In that period of time you can really get the feel for your new Wolfie and experience 2 different shaves from a dual comb. Yes both sides will be the same gap, no they do not shave alike. You can always order JUST a SB plate or OC plate when you’re called upon again for a build. Or you ask your pals here if anyone wants anything from James as you’re up again for a build. I’m ALWAYS looking for spare parts. If you hate your new .54 DC or .95 WR2 DC the .61 .67, 1.05 and 1.15 are seemingly plentiful on the BST’s. Once you know how the different gaps shave for YOU and your needs, it’s easier
Are there any RAZORS out here that shave like a Wolfman Razor WR1 or WR2?
No, nothing shaves like a Wolfman Razor. I read threads of nonsense about razors that shave “like” a Wolfman. Guess what I did? I sent my $70 plus shipping, received said razor and 3 days later sold it for $50 minus $7 for shipping and my wasted time. Save your $70 for that $305 brush you want. I’m not a Wolfman FanBoy either. In fact, I think James’ current business model sucks. Yet my dumb a— has been in line for 4 years waiting on the email from Tara for my next build
Whatever you do, buy value, get the most bang for your buck. I remember my first build. I remember NOT ordering a stand to put it in. I remember the first time I had to reluctantly lay it down on my counter. I remember having no stand to display this work of art in. A temporary knockoff stand will be exactly that, a knock off and not a Wolfman stand built for your razor……. and it will bother you every day that you cheated yourself out of the entire experience of your first Wolfie, if this is your first
That’s my $.02
