Nice looking shave. Never used that razor and interested in your thoughts going forward on it.

Thanks Dave. I'm still on the fence about it. I like how efficient it is with the low numbers, and just need to bolster my courage to try it at a higher one to see how it does on a truly aggressive setting.

With the enabling of our Kentuckian friend(eyes Dave in KY) I ended up pulling the trigger on a Jones Shake Sharp, and it arrived yesterday, so I popped a Wizamet in and grabbed some of this amazing smelling and great performing shave soap. The shave started out a bit rough. The razor seemed to be on the toothy side, and I recalled Dave stacking blades in it. In went another Wizamet, and it smoothed out quite a bit. There was some irritation from the first pass that lingered, but I got a good result once the blades were stacked and I'll be breaking this one out again to get a better feel for it.



About to grab a shower and get today's shave in, with a couple products that I haven't used in a bit.

That's a Beauty Eric, yep, stacked blades and if you think that ones toothy you don't want the MK-1. I like them both but for now prefer the V2 you have.

Brush: Trotter Handcrafts Immunity
Cream: Esbjerg Grapefruit
Aftershave: Via Barberia Fructi Aftershave Serum

it has been a while since I used a straight, so a favorite was grabbed today. One of the more rare Swedes, this ivory clad Jernbolaget beauty is a truly fantastic razor. Pulled the Esbjerg cream out of obscurity as well, and paired it with the Fructi serum. I'd probably put Esbjerg up with the best creams in terms of performance. Baum.be might beat it out in slickness, but I think I get more cushion from Esbjerg, which balances it out.

What a great shave! Don't get me wrong, I love my DE's and SE's, but using nothing but those for the last two or three weeks has helped me gain(or maybe regain) an appreciation for the savage elegance of the straight razor. Interestingly enough, it seems to have also helped me clean up my technique with the straight a bit, as I was being more mindful of visualizing the edge and angle. I did let my attention slip once, and got a nice bite on the chin for it, but it was a small price to pay. Three passes left me with a delightfully smooth face, and a shot of the Fructi aftershave brought it all up to the next level.

Two beautiful shaves Eric! 

FWIW Eric (and Dave), I prefer to stack a blade with a shim instead of a second blade in my V2 Shake Sharp.  By luck, have been using only waxed blades and tossing them after one shave.  IIRC something posted by Jgreenepa about the V2 led me to try the shim, and I preferred it.  Something I ran across more recently - in Dave's journal I think, and posted by jmudrick IIRC - made me realize that wax on the blade may have been more important than I realized in helping to keep the blade and shim from slipping.  In any case, I would be curious to know your impressions if you ever try a shim, especially if you try it while using a V2.
