The weather channel - winter 2016

I, too, heard that NY could expect 20"+  from this storm. That's insane. We haven't had snow in my town for over 25 years... and even that was barely enough to cover the ground. I can't imagine having to drive to work, run errands, etc in that kind of weather. Be safe folks!

You get used to it.  Like the Boy Scout motto, be prepared.  Snow tires, studded are always good, have an emergency kit in the trunk.  Dress in layers, wear a hat/touque/beanie. Scarves are a good idea, those shemaghs are great to get maximum coverage.  I hate having wind and snow blow down my neck.  And if its really bad, as Brian says above, don't go out.  There's very few things worth wrecking your car, or getting killed over. Some of my best memories with my kids when they were small involved snow days when I couldn't get in to work so we just played in the snow and then warmed up with hot chocolate in front of a fire.  Good times.   You do get used to the day to day life in cold climate, watch you don't slip on the ice.

My wife picked up some peppermint hot cocoa this year. Normally I don't have much of a sweet tooth but this stuff was filled with hunks of chocolate as well as the peppermint flavoring and choco. We killed the entire tin over a few moderate cold fronts. And a bottle of Blanton's.

I remember those days during my time in California of two seasons: good and better!

Can't say I blame you. This is the primary reason most people move away from the north eastern states - they get tired of the snow.

I love Flagstaff, but their weather is somewhat similar to that of SE PA.

We had a .25"-.50" of ice which was then covered by sleet and snow.....made the area an ice rink....and A LOT of power outages....we didn't lose power, so I spent most of Saturday picking up friends in my 4x4 and bringing them to our house to stay warm. Fun stuff....
