What is luxury? For me, luxury is - to paraphrase
onethinline - "a little bit of extra". It's a combination of intangibles that is hard to define, but a product either is or isn't 'luxury'. Naturally this is an extraordinarily subjective categorization.
But ultimately, what luxury is or isn't is entirely immaterial to the purposes of this thread, as is the concept of "over-priced". I'd be interested in finding out your opinions on the very best soaps and creams. Consequently, "money no object" is an essential aspect of this sort of this discussion, else it will inevitably devolve into debates over price and value.
For me though, price is correlated with quality, especially in some areas, but it isn't a perfect correlation. As
onethinline has identified, scent is one of the areas where price and quality are sometimes correlated. For instance, if you have a bigger budget, you can hire a better perfumer and/or purchase expensive fragrance oils. Packaging often works similarly (but not always). And while we all might wish to be democratic in suggesting that price and quality have no correlation, I'd argue that this correlation is simply a fact of life, however imperfect. There will be exceptions, and those exceptions should be noted. Each and every one of you are welcome to your own opinion on this matter, and that's perfectly ok

In any event, I have evaluated my slate of products without reference to price. Personally, I don't care how much a product costs - I care about how well it performs. And if a product that is 100% more expensive performs ~10% better for me, to me it's worth it. For others it might not be. Let's try to leave it up to the individual reader to determine whether or not a product is worth the price.
