The Vector, SE RAD Killer

One thing I would say is that the pressure I find myself applying (right or not, but what I need to really feel like I’m getting an efficient shave) is similar to cartridge shaving. Would you say you were applying  that much pressure? Btw that’s with proGuards blades which I’m really liking. They need a bit more pressure but I get absolutely zero irritation.

It’s been a long time since I shaved wit a cartridge so I don’t know but I do agree that more pressure is required than is prudent to apply with a DE razor. If you watch Shane’s welcome to the Blackland family (Vector) video, he does address pressure so I went in with my eyes open on that point. I think the Vector is a masterpiece of design- it’s minimalist - it has everything that you need and nothing that you don’t.

Definately a small learning curve with the Vector. Took me a few weeks of shaves to get the angle and slight amount of pressure down and now it's like butter. Glad you're enjoying it Marko!

There is nothing inferior about 303 stainless steel vs 316L in a razor. You will experience absolutely no difference. Short term or long term.

My month is done with this razor. Definitely worthwhile. I figured out both the razor and blade choice which suits me (thanks all for heavily suggesting I try other blades - that AC variability is no joke).

Im not ready to sell my other razors yet, but I think I’ll be using the Vector as my primary for the foreseeable future. There’s no other shave like it. I also love how elegant and light it feels. Now to get an OC plate for when I’ve been lazy for a few days….

Which blade did you settle on?

I scanned back a few posts. Proguards looks like the blade you settled in inspirado   Funny because I think that’s what I’m coming around to as well. I started with Feather Pro, then tried the Kai Captain Mild which shaved very much like the Feather Pro but there was a fit problem. I never did try the Kai Captain because of the fit problem. The Kai with the guard were ok but pretty mild. The Feather Pro Super were really sharp but not comfortable for me. The Feather Proguard was very comfortable and sharper that the Kai guarded blade. I think the Feather Proguard will be my #1 followed by the Feather Pro when I feel like walking on the edge.

Yes indeed the feather ProGuard. The feather pros or supers were definitely too aggressive for me. I’m finding neutral or no blade feel is best for me.

I’ve been using the vector for a few weeks now and an observation I’ll share here is that of all the razors I’ve used since going down the wet shaving path, it’s the one that is the closest to the cartridge razor experience. Now it’s also the only SE razor I’ve used so not a surprise really. Among the things many people like about cartridge razors is the smaller head and lighter weight and the vector has those attributes in spades with the addition of being sharper and more beautiful as well as more environmentally friendly. I won’t get into the pros and cons of titanium mining and refining, I’m just referring to the waste aspect. So, if you’re a cartridge razor user and are thinking of trying a DE razor or you’ve just started using one but don’t like the size and weight of the DE then I suggest you try the Vector.
