The Vector, SE RAD Killer

I used Mongoose in aluminum, Colonial Razor The General but there is none like the Vector even if it is in 303 steel. The Vector has the right weight and incredible precision, like a laser beam. I use it with real pleasure with Feather Pro Guard. I'd be curious to try the Vector in titanium

You win, best description yet!! I found the stainless steel Vector to be too much for me as a daily shaver, but the titanium nailed it for me. On Blackland's website, Shane has a blog post regarding how titanium can "soften" an aggressive feeling razor. After reading that, I bought a the Ti version as soon as I saw one in the BST. Or I posted a WTB. Doesn't really matter, you get the point!

You guys weren’t kidding - what a massive difference between blades in the AC series! I switched to feather proGuards and it’s a completely different shaver! I have a couple notes in my experience so far with this razor this month:

I have the Ti Vector, so sure it’s light, but man this razor needs some pressure (at least for the first pass). It’s fine since it doesn’t lead to irritation (at least for me with the ProGuards). Without fairly substantial pressure it skips on any first pass, no matter the growth. I have a sneaking suspicion it’s because I’m riding the cap quite a bit, but the shave is great so who cares. It’s also possible that this blade, at maybe 50% additional length over a DE blade, needs more force to get the blade pressure on a per unit basis the same. Am I pushing more the 50% greater than my DE razors? Yes, significantly so…but maybe the Ti weight reduction and this blade length piece combined result in requiring the pressure I’m using.

Fun razor. Glad I committed this month to it.

Also I’m considering grinding a groove in the bottom of the stand to let air out - it’s almost a press fit between the razor and the stand, so any water on a granite countertop creates a seal and the razor doesn’t slide in without some effort.

A Blackland Ti Vector arrived today. It’s quite an instrument. I’m looking forward to using it. Maybe tomorrow. Maybe on the weekend. This is my first SE razor and it will be nice to get my first few shaved with it under my belt. Thanks Shane Blackland Razors

I used it today - might as well just jump in.  I asked myself, "what would Dave do?"  Ive seen you wield some frightening looking instruments so I figured if you could manage that so could I.  Here are my thoughts - its light as a feather and the parts are fairly small so loading is a minor challenge for those reasons along with its my first time.  I dont see that being an issue going forward.  I used the recommended by Shane Feather Professional blade and its sharp enough.  The light weight did require adding more pressure than I would with a heavier DE razor like the Rockwell.  The slender head definitely allows for access to those sometimes hard to reach places under the nose.  A real plus with the light weight is that it's far easier to maneuver and manipulate which those older guys among us with arthritis and nerve issues might like.  I like the balance and the size and diameter of the handle is perfect.  I'll get used to the weight and the lack of skill loading blades should resolve quickly as I'm a disassemble, rinse and dry after every shave guy so I'll be loading and unloading every shave not once every 10 or 15 shaves at blade change time.  I did a three pass shave because thats what I do.  A very, very close shave and I won't lie, I had to use the alum block but after some Thayer's and Ethos skin food lotion, splash and serum I was good - Bay Rum of course

Thanks!  I forgot to mention in my summary of first shave above that I like it.  I'll like it even more with time.

One thing I would say is that the pressure I find myself applying (right or not, but what I need to really feel like I’m getting an efficient shave) is similar to cartridge shaving. Would you say you were applying that much pressure? Btw that’s with proGuards blades which I’m really liking. They need a bit more pressure but I get absolutely zero irritation.
