Looking to buy a vector in the next couple weeks here and torn on which baseplate to get. I don't shave daily, and my skin hasn't really ever allowed it unless I do only one WTG pass. For work, I shave every other day and need a relatively efficient razor to stay clean shaven majority of the day. My go to razors are WR2 1.45, YPM H plate, and CG level 2. I have a handful of other razors that shave great but I seem to start getting some pretty heavy stubble mid work day. Having never used an AC razor before, am I safe getting the SB and using some of the sharper blades? I've seen some reviews stating it is plenty efficient.

Both baseplates are good but I prefer the comb version for closest shave

I lied, I ended up shaving today. First shave was pheonominal. I tried the feather proguard first due to never using an AC, and not wanting to tear my face up. Razor is a piece of art. So small and slim but the tolerances and machining are spot on. Blade loading was somewhat tricky being new, but not too difficult. I used A&E Club Baccara and was able to build a great lather. It took a second to find the correct angle, but once I did it was not difficult to hold.

For full transparency I purchased the cheap knock off vector head from aliexpress, hoping to try the blade format before dropping the money on a vector or more expensive razor. While waiting for that to arrive, I saw a good deal on a vector set and ended up pulling the trigger anyways. Funny thing is, both razors arrived on the same day. The Chinese version is obviously that, considerably cheaper and not nearly as refined. I figured since I had it anyways, might as well use it as a travel razor. I decided to do a little face off and shave one side of my face with the vector, and the other with the yaqi version. Its not even comparable. The vector shaved so much better. I barely finished the yaqi side of my face. The razor was skipping, had more blade feel, with less efficiency. It had trouble cutting through some of my thicker growth areas, and even when it did, left more to be desired. I am honestly glad I picked up the vector when I did. If I hadn't the knock off razor may have pushed me away from the AC blade format.

Finished the rest of the shave with the vector doing a 2nd ATG pass. Alum block showed a little sting on my neck where I had some previous irritation. I was extremely surprised how close of a shave I achieved with the proguard blade. I thought having the guarded blade would make it difficult to get a close shave. I couldn't have been more wrong. The shave has lasted all day too, that "deep" shave only hyper efficient DE's usually give (atleast for me). Now I look forward to making my way through the blade sampler, and also trying out the OC baseplate.

Have been getting some great shaves with the feather pro blades and both baseplates. How do the schick blades compare to the feathers? The first pass always feels a bit tuggy with the feather, no irritation though. Second pass is smooth as can be.

Hopefully some folks who have actually used both, as opposed to me, can chime in soon! I love the Schick Prolines in my Vector. I have only the safety bar plate, and I have tried and liked several of the Kai blades, the Protouch MG guarded blade and the Captain Titan Mild blades. I have some Feathers but haven't put one it yet.

Also, as you have probably seen, the Schick blades can be tricky in the Vector. My Vector readily accepts them, while others report difficulties either with loading one or trying to get it off the cap later. Keep that in mind if you haven't bought any.

Here's to some great shaves, regardless!
