I don't think I've bought more than one soap in the last 4 years or so. I got into soaps in 2014 and by 2017 had found my "go-to's" that gave me enjoyable, irritation-free, happy shaves. My skin gets irritated with stronger scents but I love menthol, so my classics are Haslinger, Stirling Glacial, and Tabac (which doesn't actually set my skin off). With these three I really haven't felt a pull towards any new soaps and I'm totally out to lunch on what's being going on in the soap world for the last 3-4 years.

But, that nasty little soap bug is back: It started with me getting Sudsy Soapery Blizzard (My glacial wintergreen was "getting low" and I've always wanted some SS) and threw in their Bayberry just for kicks. I've gotten a couple samples of Shannon's Soaps on the way because I've always wanted to try them and they seem like they're a great value, so I'm hoping my skin likes their scents.

And now I'm really screwed, because I've started exploring the new artisan soap options: Ariana and Evans, Hub City, and Highland Springs Shave Co are all on my list. I'm from British Columbia in Canada so particularly interested in HSSC, which is in Cranbrook.

Anyway, I'm trying to keep from going crazy but we'll see. Thoughts and Prayers would be appreciated.

HSSC makes some top quality soaps, especially their tallow base. Its been my go to for the last month and I've been having some great shaves.

Which of their scents have you used? I'm mainly looking at the scent free one but I'd be curious to hear your take on them. It's hard to really know how a soap's going to smell just by the description on the site.

Here's my thoughts. Ethos Pure (scent free) or Ethos Peppermint

Have a Pure (Clean unscented) if somebody wants it

I've used Green Door, Reflection, and The Forge. I have Kootenay Bay and Havana Vieja in the vegan formula. Reflection is a nice cologne dupe, and Green door is a nice Green scent. Reflection just wasn't up my alley, and Green door was slightly too "floral". The forge is my favorite, hard to describe, just a nice unoffensive scent. You can't go wrong with unscented either.

Try samples before buying full tubs.

Since you're Canadian, you should definitely add Tallow & Steel and Midnight & Two to your list.

Talbot, one of the newer, top-drawer artisans, releases a new scent Champlain on Thursday at 10am EST....excellent base...excellent scent...cool and outdoorsy...also will be available at Top of the Chain in Canada. They also have an unscented called Trust available now at TOTC...
