It's funny how a little time changes things!! I now have 2 different razors and each razor is blade dependent as it would seem... When using my Ti95DC it is a Silverstar and the Ti Blackbird is a Feather. I haven't been lucky enough to be able to use just one blade with both with any real success to date...

My #1 (and exclusive) blade was polsilver/Wizamet for the last 7 years but recently, the BIC chrome platinum has taken the #1 spot!!

My BIC stash has ballooned to 3K!!
I get six - 4 pass - shaves from each blade.

Its been a while since I started this thread and there has been the passage of time and many more shaves since I claimed that the Feather blade was my "ONE" blade.  Do I still feel the same way?  Hell yeah!  Maybe more so.  It is such a great blade - in the Rockwell 6S I routinely get 10+ excellent shaves from a blade.  One thing I've noticed is that the Feather blade is made from thicker steel than most blades.  Only the Kai blade is made from as thick steel.  I haven't put a micrometer on them to measure but its obvious to me from my routine.  I've mentioned in another thread that I disassemble and rinse my razor and blade after every shave.  I wipe the razor parts with a barber's towel and set them out to dry.  I do not wipe the blades for two reasons - first, many blade makers tell you not to wipe the blades (I think its because you could wipe off any added coatings) and second, its dangerous.  so what I do is remove the blade and holding it between thumb and forefinger, rinse it under very hot water (this has the added benefit of removing wax dots) then flip it so I'm holding it by the other end and rinse it off.  I then flick the blade from one end, rotate and flick it from the other end, to remove excess water then lay the blade out on paper towel.  Its very dry where I live so things generally dry out thoroughly very quickly.  Its the act of flicking the blade that tells me how thick a blade is.  Thicker blades like Feather and Kai are obviously stiffer and feel thicker than all other blades I've used.

I'm thinking that the thicker blade doesn't flex as much allowing for greater edge presentation and also, maybe that extra thickness allows for machining a sharper more durable edge on a greater cross section of steel. Maybe a better grade of steel.  Those are just my opinions/thoughts based on observation.  Feather, I love you. Smile

Polsilver, personna med prep( no glue dots as a bonus), gsb, wizamets. In that order. I find these to be exceptional and all others as serviceable. I haven’t encountered a blade to date which was uncomfortable. Except for counterfeit polsilvers. Check out my thread on it. Fascinating stuff that anyone would go through the hassle.
