Hello,

I actually liked the earlier 07' Derby extra blades. So I was wandering about the newer blue derby package. It says new blade technology on the box. Are these anygood? Also are the Derby premiums any better? Or are they the exact same blade?

Derby Premiums seems to be smoother with good rigidity, I used them with the Blackbird aka '73 911 or the 'blade tester' and they worked a treat.

That sounds good! I actually like the regular ones, and if the premiums are smoother then I must try.

This is interesting. When I first started with DE razors I used Derby blades, but later I decided they weren't sharp enough for me. I may have to try the Derby Premiums and decided for myself if they're worth sticking with.

Thanks to BPman for the link to Refined Shave.  That is one fantastic compilation of data on that site, which I had no idea existed.  Some of the data does not correlate to my personal experiences, but it appears to be a pretty scientific study.  By triangulating my experience with the data provided, it gives me a better idea of which blades may or may not work for me.

I agree with you. If anything, it shows the narrow band of correlation between sharpness & smoothness. People often confuse the two as many new blade reviews on forums are made by new wet shavers who haven't "honed" their prep method & technique well. Good prep/technique, the right razor for your face and a good soap/cream "pave the road" for a top shelf blade to work as designed. Wink
