my facial hair grows very flat against the skin.  I feel as though the cold water might help my hairs stand up more and allow the razor to get a cleaner cut without the irritation.

It could definitely help. I know I am prone to much more irritation when I use even lukewarm water. If I actually use hot water my I will end up with hamburger face.

I've never tried it but I've been curious if that product Lectric Shave for electric razors would help as they promote it as helping the stubble to stand up for the razor to cut closer.

lectric shave is definitely cheap enough to at least try. would you try it without any soap/cream (I think it's meant to be used this way)?

Lectric shave is meant to be used by itself, but that's with electric razors that you normally dry shave with anyway. If I were to try it, then I would use it as a preshave and then lather up as usual on top of it. I doubt that I'd like to try shaving with only Lectric Shave.

I just did a cold water shave with my Asylum RX and it was awesome. Thanks for this thread. Do you guys also load the soap with cold water? I did plus did all my passes with cold water. Couldn't even feel my alum at the end of the shave.

As cold as the faucet gets from start to finish. The only warm water I use is while in the shower which I count as my preshave.

Brian, you don't use warm water to rinse your brush after a shave?

Maybe every now & then but not usually. Typically just plunge the brush in a basin full until thoroughly rinsed.

I don't always shave with cold water, but when I do there seems to be a bit less irritation. I also find that I can build a better lather with cold water. Why don't I always shave with cold water? Because I also enjoy hot lather from a scuttle.
