The Magic of Cold Water Shaving!

Cold water convert 6 months ago. CWS has all but eliminated any irritation for me. It's a no brainer!

For some reason I get less irritation/burn, but more ingrowns.

I just can't get enthusiastic about cold water shaving. I really like the sensation of warm water on my face when lathering, except on really warm days, when I use tepid water. On those days I fill my scuttle reservoir with cold water. And always when I'm finishing my shave, I rinse my face with cold water to invigorate my skin. But I don't have ingrown hairs and very rarely get any razor burn.

I don't usually use cold water, but since it was in the 90s on Saturday, I had a cold water shave with B&M Adagio and it was one of the best shaves of my life!

Glad you enjoyed the shave Jeff. That little bit of menthol kicks it up a notch. Have you tried a cold water shave with the Arctique? It truly is an eye opening experience.

The ingrowns are because the cold water allows you to shave closer, which apparently is too close. Maybe cut out a pass and then splash on some warm water for the rinse.

Jerry, I have not tried Arctique, but I have done a cold water shave with Chiseled Face Cryogen and that was a little too much menthol for me. I could barely keep my eyes open to see what I was doing!

I have been enjoying cold water shaves with a cold water scuttle since it started to really warm up around here. I still soak my brush and bloom my soap with warm water, but I soak my scuttle and fill it with very cold water, lather with coal lather from the scuttle, and rinse razor and scalp with a sink full of very cold water. Very invigorating!

I will continue to use warm and even hot water in the scuttle and sink when the weather turns cold again, but I am truly enjoying the cold water/cold lather shaves on hot days. And when it's REALLY hot, I bust out the cold water with mentholated soaps. VERY invigorating!

I need to try this technique more with using nothing but cold water: cold water face wash, lathering up my brush and soap using cold water and then using cold water to rinse my razor and clean up my face after my shave is done. I think it could be the ticket to solving my perpetual irritation problems.

my facial hair grows very flat against the skin. I feel as though the cold water might help my hairs stand up more and allow the razor to get a cleaner cut without the irritation.

It could definitely help. I know I am prone to much more irritation when I use even lukewarm water. If I actually use hot water my I will end up with hamburger face.

I've never tried it but I've been curious if that product Lectric Shave for electric razors would help as they promote it as helping the stubble to stand up for the razor to cut closer.

lectric shave is definitely cheap enough to at least try. would you try it without any soap/cream (I think it's meant to be used this way)?
