The Ladies in our lives.

From the posts I read on DFS, most of us have found joy in what was once a chore. I sure do enjoy my daily shave! What I'm wondering though is how many of us live with a woman who has also found that same joy in their routine?

My bride's journey was not immediate by any measure. Like most she used some pink plastic disposable razors. She obviously noticed my hobby as UPS and USPS made more frequent stops but although I offered to teach her, she had no desire. During this time my married sons and daughter noticed my brushes, razors, and soaps and through Q&A all of them quit the way they were shaving and switched to this old school way. Being poor college students and having a dad willing to set them all up with gear and supplies for free may have been the impetus for change but all of them, including the ladies, liked the results and they shared notes at family get-togethers.

One morning my wife called from the shower that her razor needed changing and she had forgotten to buy more and "would I be willing to loan her a razor with a sharp blade?" Ha! I did better than that. I had already bought her a personal razor and told her to shampoo as I got her gear ready. I whipped up a lather for her and talked her through her first DE shave. Everything worked out swimmingly.

She never made that purchase of pink plastic razors and just passed the year mark of DE shaving. She has had free run of my brushes (badger, boar, synthetic) and has settled on an Omega pro boar brush as her favorite. She likes the high loft and subsequent splay because of its coverage. She has in no uncertain terms ordered me to ONLY load her razor with Personna lab blues (oh yes she did) as none of the other blades suited her style. She spends time occasionally sniffing soaps to set them aside for a try but her two favorites are B&M Rhapsody and Stirling Spearmint. The latter not because of the menthol but she loves the mint scent. She also keeps a Kiss My Face pump soap close for days hen she's behind schedule. And she's happy!

She still thinks my hobby is pretty funny but she doesn't bother with any attitude about a new soap, brush, or razor showing up in the mailbox because she knows I've got her back and am shopping for her too. (Yes, I have a new Omega Pro boar I'm breaking in and yes I miss the one she laid claim to. But hey, this one will likely wear into being a soft lather monster with use.).

So speak up chaps! What is your girls choice of shaving tools?

Venus cartridge. Always has been always will be. She uses the same one for months at a time with no irritation and no problem. If she had to actually use it on her face she might think twice about it, but she doesn't have to. The bath soaps from artisans are enough to let me buy soap when I want to. It's why traditional shaving will never be a mainstream thing.........people are in too much of a hurry these days.

I never got the hurry thing. How much time does one spend on Facebook or some other thing on the internet.... Couldn't a fraction of the time be spend taking care of yourself? hrug:

I got my wife using a DE razor. She was tired of the razor burn she got under her arms and on her legs. I showed her how to use a DE razor on her legs and she took off with it. Now of course, she has zero interest in shaving like I do, buying all these razors, brushes soaps. She uses one razor, one soap, one brush. She likes lavender Castle Forbes cream because it lathers in a second, and she uses a Stirling Synthetic and a Gillete Flair tip. All of these choices are based on convenience. The soap lathers quickly, the synthetic doesn't have to be soaked and the Flair tip is just a classic and can be put away wet.

Something cool that came out of all of this was my wife talked her sister into DE shaving as well and she loves it. I gave my sister-in-law a Merkur 23C and some Crystal blades and a half used tub of St James of London and she is on her way now too.

I converted my wife as well. She uses a Maggard V3A, RazoRock Monster Plissoft brush and whatever soap she happens to grab. Only one soap at a time until it's gone though. Her first tub was Barrister and Mann Night Music. I can't recall which one she's on to now.

Converted the wife years ago. Gave her one of my Simpson brushes, an extra Superspeed and some Trumpers Almond cream. She liked the combo and has used the DE ever since.

My story is quite the opposite one. She encouraged and walked me through my first safety razor shave!!

I was having severe razor burn and such issues during winter in my neck. I tried various cartridges without much luck. Then tried electric - thinking I am not being modern enough.

I eventually picked up a cream, after shave and brush from Art of Shaving store. This helped to some extent but didn't solve my problem completely. Then I found online that some folks use single blade (DE) razors with great comfort and read an article about problems associated with multi blade cartridges. I showed that to my wife and she told me my (late) father in law used to use that and she used it for her legs when she was younger.

So I picked up a EJ DE89 from Amazon and it was my wife who (kind of) taught me how to use a DE!!

She uses those Venus or whatever now even though I insisted on using one of mine.

Not yet, though she was less resistant than normal when I suggested she try an Injector I picked up recently. I think when she's down to just a couple of carts left, I'm going to stock up on injector blades and see if I can get her to try the J type before we order any more carts.

Mine converted me to DE shaving, I was solely a straight shaver, and she saw how much happier I was with a single blade, but said she wanted to try a DE so we bought her a Merkur with a long handle. One day when I was out at an antique store I bought two 50's super speeds and borrowed a blade from her and found out how carefree a shave can be at 530 in the morning and now my straights have become weekend only use, after a cup of coffee

Nope,if that were the case everybody would be DE shaving right now. Younger generations have different priorities I guess.
