The Gibbs Regable from Heritagecollectionshaving.

jmudrick was kind enough to loan me the Heritage Gibbs.

First impressions taking it out of the box. This is the Gibbs looks wise. Workmanship is excellent fit and form is very good. Holding in my hand. It has the same weight balance I remember from the Gibbs. Weight forward in the head.

I few words on the head weight. My opinion mind you. I prefer a more balanced razor in general. Only reason is I do not need to be as mindful for blade feel. On the HG all I needed to do is choke up on my grip. Now going South to North. I love the added head weight and actually grip the very back of the handle. No clue as to why I like that other than gravity is pulling the head down not allowing for heavier pressure.

I very much prefer as little pressure as possible. That allows me to get the blade feel I like.

On to the shave. Reading previous posts on the shave aggression. I opted to start on 4 for a 4 days growth. I loaded a new Gillette Platinum. After one stroke I dialed it up to 6. Much better feel. It removed 4 days of stubble with ease. Passes 2 and 3 went just as well. Even better actually. I only had 2 small spots that I needed to go back on.

I finished with an irritation free shave. DFS+. I will be using this all next week on my normal 2 day shave cycle. If the razor continues to deliver the same effortless results. This for sure will be a welcome addition to my den.

Really there is nothing I would say needs changing. It holds true to the Gibbs in looks. Might be a bit milder. I do not have a Gibbs at the moment to compare to. Of my several adjustable razors this falls right behind my older Gold Progress in aggression in front of my various Gillette’s.

My only suggestion would to be to offer a heavier handle to offset the head weight for those who prefer that.

The big question is what price point this will be. Will it be less than the original to a point people are drawn in to get one. I sure hope so. As I think this is a really fine tool.

Shave 2 in the books.

Tonight I decided to set the razor at Neutral for all 3 passes.
There is still blade feel down there. I would compare it to a 47 Aristocrat in blade feel but a touch less. It did a splendid job of 2-1/2 days. I did have to touch up my neck a bit more than my first go. Mind you it is almost unheard of not for me to have to go back over my neck.

Shave 2 and I literally just realized I never gave the head balance a single thought during the shave. I am liking this razor. Next shave I might try it dialed all the way down. I fear it will be tech mild. Something I personally despise.


This is a razor I could use on a very regular basis if I was into that. I will have to start saving my lunch money for when they become available. I will be buying one.

Again great job on recreating a classic Gibbs.

The lowest setting will be for you. A bit of a struggle to get a nice 3 pass shave. More cleanup than I like to get the neck area.

Now for some incoherent ramblings as they come to mind.
Initial feeling on head weight. Non issue after only 3 shaves.
Workmanship is fantastic. Fit finish is on par with any razor on the market.
Adjustability great range. From very mild to a nice aggression not overly so in the least. It might get more if you over dial.
Staying true to Gibbs is spot on in my book. Sexy looking razor!
I like the fact that you can take completely apart to clean.
I found that I had no blade chatter at all so blade support is just dandy.
I will give it one last shave with a Kia blade opened up to 6 on Friday.

Again great razor.

As you probably recall on the Gibbs you can adjust on the fly without having to unscrew the handle, where on the Heritage one has to loosen it and the number will reflect a different level of gap depending on how tight the handle is. That complication was really my only issue with the Heritage.

See I did not know that. I figured I just forgot how it adjusted.  Yes it does involve added care to adjust on the fly.  For me I tend to leave at one setting once I start. that will be a problem for those who take full advantage of the adjustability.  I will take a close look at that before my next shave.

In some razors which adjust on the fly the setting can be accidentally changed but I don't recall having that problem with the Gibbs.

It's all a tradeoff. Do you match the Gibbs mechanism and irritate the folks who are looking for more efficiency at the higher adjustment levels, or do you slightly inconvenience those who'll never use it above 6 anyway?
