It was always made in China - the first version as well.
In the video he said that "the initial manufacturer approached Yaqi" - It's highly unlikely that Yaqi would use a US manufacturer.

The Eagle has landed. I'll be doing a quick unboxing video in the next day or so, then a first impressions video early next week. I'll probably use it for a solid week or so before doing an in-depth review video.

In the house. I'm immediately happy that the handle is a few mm longer than the original, and the balance point of the razor has moved south to just beneath the dial, improving handling for this user.

Arrived too late for a shave, that will wait until tomorrow.

First shave with the Heritage razor. I did not make any attempt to compare gap or exposure on the Heritage and Gibbs but on this introductory shave simply set the dial on 4 with handle fully tightened as I do on the Gibbs. First strokes indicated it was an acceptably good setting, plenty of blade feel without do feeling overly aggressive.

I should note that my affection for the Gibbs is more a reflection of historical interest, less for its shaving abilities as they match my preferences. The Heritage, while not a clone of the Gibbs or Personna, shares its basic geometry with both its strengths and weaknesses.

Thus, with Astra SS blade, it was immediately apparent that going ATG on my moustache area was not as smooth as razors with more rigid designs (achieved with clamping or tortion/bend). Not exactly tuggy but clearly not at its best. Same carried over to the head shave where it performed quite well until it got to my ATG trouble spots. Overall I finished with near BBS both beard and head. I finished with pick ups on my head with the Shake Sharp which was dramatically smoother and more efficient just as it is with compared to the Gibbs original.


The Heritage in this beta form is very well put together. It operates smoothly and tolerances seem tight enough especially given the price point. As I told Neil I would prefer a threaded brass sleeve over plastic but that's my only real beef (that and perhaps finer lettering on the adjustment dial). Honestly the plastic seems sturdy enough as is.

Tomorrow I'll mess around more with settings and perhaps a blade change, then go head to head with the Gibbs.

Here are my initial mail call thoughts.  I used it for a quick face shave yesterday, but too early really to give any thoughts on the shave.  I'll be recording a first impressions head shave with it this afternoon.
