Bishop seems pretty nice. I always stop at Schat's for some bread whenever I'm up there.

Do yourself a favor and check out Great Basin Bakery next time through town. Better bread, better service, better prices, smaller lines. It's the local preference. Shhh....don't tell anyone lol...

Hey Chris -- I've been going up to Mammoth and Bishop for 30 years, skiing & fishing. My earliest days of learning to fly fish were on the Upper Owens and the gorge at Hot Creek. As you might expect, a pretty steep learning curve. Didn't come up this last winter as I've been focused more on surfing and paddling these days than snowboarding. Last year my GF and I stayed up at Convict Lake for a wedding in the fall and the colors were at their peak. She loved the deer eating out of her hand on the deck of our cabin and put up with me as I caught a couple of rainbows by the Chalk Bluffs. Nothing like catching a nice wild trout on a fly you tied yourself. Good thing I used a barbless hook because right on cue a ranger came out of nowhere to check my fly.

I used to fish 250+ days a year, up until my daughter was born. LOADS of rockclimbing, as well. I used to write fly tying articles for the Southern Enclave of the Federation of Fly Fishers, and the Lower Owens River Emerger is a fly pattern of my own creation that was quite popular back around 05/06...

Hot Creek is easy once you learn that they like size 22 or smaller, pale olive caddis or dun wing style, and dry...avoid floatant, and cast all the way across to the far side for the best action... I've always been a 3wt in wild creeks kind of guy.

If you want a real treat, hit Pine Creek on your next run through. Every single pocket of soft water is holding quality, chunky trout, and they get these beautiful rainbow/golden hybrids coming down out of the upper lakes...

Rangers sit on the bluffs with binoculars. If they can't see your license, or they suspect your barbs aren't pinched they will come down and have a conversation...

Yea, my area is pretty popular with the fishermen...

Im in Bishop. Northern Inyo County. Owens Valley. Home to all the best fishing and rock climbing. I live in Bishop and work in Mammoth Lakes.

Sweet!  I'm in Mammoth all the time. I avidly fish(though not a much as I used to) and ski! I own a condo in town, at Krystal Villa West ;-)

Hmmm, I don't recall knowing that that was happening.... I have an old Stove Pipe wood burner for a fire place.... you recall that?

Nah, I don't recall anything specific. I know we did a lot of repairs at all the major condo complexes this year. Hundreds of chimney pipes were knocked over and ripped off roofs from snow shedding. KVW was one of the projects with a few damaged pipes, but you would have known if we were there. We would have gone inside to make sure everything was good.
