The Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus is going to return, but without its animals. To me that means it's really no different than Cirque de Soleil and other all-human trapeze/gymnastics/juggling/etc. productions, entertaining but... just not the same. I really enjoyed going to the circus when I was a kid, with the popcorn and cotton candy and sawdust on the floor. I understand the arguments about cruelty to animals - and the declining ticket sales in an era of competing shows - but at the same time I miss the old elephant and lion and tiger acts.

After I posted this and told my wife about it, she said she wonders why nobody has created adult theme parks, sort of like Disney World but for grownups. Someplace that would have perhaps a land of 1880s London, with period hotel rooms and restaurants, and maybe 1920s Paris or New York or 1930s Istanbul.

That would be fun, as long as no "Westworld" shenanigans happen!

But I'd enjoy a Sherlock Holmes themed park, with a Hound of the Baskervilles stroll through fog!
