Thanksgiving in Vermont

After an early meal on Thanksgiving day we drove up to our camp. There had been a recent foot of snow. The plow pile blocked the driveway.
We left the car at the stree and hoofed it to the cabin. After lighting the gas log woodstove for more heat we went back outside. We shovelled just enough space to pull the car off the street.

Friday morning dawned crisp, clear and cold.

It was negative 5 degrees F out. Brrr.....

A good hearty breaskfast was required. Belgina waffles and Spam plus some homemade maple syrup. I included this picture just for Freddy


The snow on the porch roof was slowly sliding off.


ML went out to take some photos. The pond is almost completely frozen.


A small patch of open water produced this fog.


Both dogs enjoy the snow.


Foxy the black dog, stays on the path we cleared. No sense doing the whole driveway for a 3 day visit.

We had a lovely time.

If SPAM ever cuts its salt by 99.9999999999% then I should love to try it again.

Phil, it's just too early in the season for -5! Heck, it's too early in the season for me to light the woodstove and I had it running twice this month (that requires 20°F or lower for an extended time)! Other than the "sea smoke" those pix could have been from Jan'/ Feb'. Nice pix but far too early.

Freddy I've tasted other SPAM wannabees that probably didn't have the sodium that SPAM has. They were terrible. But if I ever encounter them again I will check them out again. They might just work better for me today with my low sodium taste buds. SPAM has an advantage of just containing pork shoulder and no pig parts that no one will ever admit to putting into the mix. Pig anus is sold by the case for commercial use where it is ground up into something sold as food for humans. That's why for years I made my own sausage and will again once I figure out a way to make it juicy without using fat. I love sausage and definitely miss it. The other "gotcha" for sausage? Sodium enhances flavor so I'll need to work on increasing that w/o sodium. Maybe potassium chloride (?) but definitely more spices/herbs.

Yes I was quite surprised at how cold it was on Black Friday. I think the high for the day was 15° F.
But as we had no plans other than to relax inside it didn't bother me.

We closed up camp for good on Saturday. Fortunately it was in the high twenties temp wise.

Phil, in winter, if I want to satisfy my latent love of snow all I have to do is drive about 60 miles into the mountains.  I have lived in San Diego for more than 43 years and I have yet to do that.

Phil - Way too early for those temperatures! Spam and waffles - good stuff!

Cincinnati was a very pleasant 55 degrees on Friday so I spent the day in the garage working and stayed as far as I could from the shopping centers!
