I won't go into details, but I ventured a little out of my comfort zone and posted what I thought was a "flame retardant" type of post on another forum in a heated thread. I guess it was my fault for sticking my nose where it wasn't wanted. It was met with hostility which I wasn't prepared for.
I'm thankful all of us here can have civilized conversations.

Honestly, Gareth, it's almost as if trolling and hostility have become "fashion statements" on the internet. Sad

Well said Freddy, it's really sad. Dealing with negative folks like that can make your head spin. Thankfully the thread got locked by an admin so it couldn't completely spiral out of control.

Standard I feel the same way. Everyone has passions and personal views which can cause conversations to become heated. However, this indeed was a shave forum I am speaking of and there really is zero excuse for conversations to turn that nasty.

What I don't understand is that the internet should give us a chance to hone our social skills, rather than flush them down the loo.  By that I mean, unlike speaking in anger where once the words are spoken they cannot be taken back, sites like DFS (or any other site where comments are permitted) give us the opportunity to be upset, even appalled, at what is put up but also give us this amazing thing called time.  Time to think about what someone wrote that upset us.  Time to vent in privacy.  Time to think about a thoughtful counterpoint.  Time to type that counterpoint in a polite non-judgemental manner.  And time to send it knowing we have put our point across using rational thought and without vitriol.  However, for whatever reason, nastiness seems to prevail all too often. Sad

A friend from another forum recently contacted me to tell me that he was no longer going to be participating on that forum. I posted to sarcastically thank the folks involved for removing one of the most knowledgeable gents on the subject for chasing him away. Only one person replied to tell me that other folks with even more credentials never go onto the internet because of all the "armchair commandos" who know nothing but need to post to destroy the folks with knowledge. I've vacated other forums for the same reasons. Let the morons inherit it, it's just not worth the aggravation. The shaving forums I inhabit are pretty tame, heck, all of the forums I attend are tame or I wouldn't be there. Where I am a moderator I rule with an iron fist and I simply won't tolerate certain things that I discussed with management and told the members before taking the job. They need to deliberately make the move into my forum so they can't say that it couldn't be dodged. Disagreement is fine done correctly, however, just not in my forum, outside of it, OK. Pretty much what Freddy wrote. So far I've had absolutely no problems. The folks who want to post respectfully do so and the rest steer clear.

Of the various forums I'm on (not directly related to the subject I'm referencing) 2 forums allow me to discuss my sport openly and (oddly enough) I'm a moderator on both forums. One I was a moderator on long before taking up my sport and openly discussing it there. On the other I was asked to moderate the section and it was created for me after I told management the ground rules to get me involved. So there's really no reason for any other sort of behavior other than positive, It falls back on management. I bet they have children who were raised as weeds also if one had insight into their private lives. Not pulling the weeds just makes other better behaved folks shy away from a site. When others see that civility reins many folks join in.

Having written that, everyone has a bad day and that's to be expected.

Not trying to start an argument, but they have me confused with someone else or someone was speaking for me without my authorization. I haven't released a new product or announced a new product in years. When I am asked about new products I politely explain my love of retirement and my desire to stay retired. I have enough business, and unless I really want a new product for myself mt product line will stay just the way it is. So I'm not slamming the door on new products, but at this time and for the last few years I've made no such announcement.

In fact I have a European "manufacturer" that won't manufacture anything and retirement keeps me from contacting my Slovenian lawyer and taking care of the problem.

If you can, could you please PM me particulars as to where that was posted? I want to track down the person posting this stuff.

This is the first I've heard of that, I think you also have me confused with someone else. My initial post was not regarding a Kramperts discussion. Sorry that's happening to you too!
