I contacted Thäter via their website inquiring about the possibility of lower lofts. The response was, shall we say, succinct:

Dear Sir,
minimum length of 2-band loft = 54 mm.
Best regards.

Not sure if this simply is because they won't do this for individuals or whether they don't at all (out of policy or some technical limitation).

They do. I own a 49125/3 with a 28mm knot and a 49125/1 with a 25mm knot. Both are custom-made. The 49125/3 has a 53,5mm loft, the 49125/1 has a 50,5mm loft:

I requested a shortered loft due to more backbone. You need to ask Stefan from nassrasurshop.de:

That´s were i ordered my custom-Thäters from. Send Stefan your request and he´ll talk to Mr. Schuldes from Thäter. Sure, there is not really a possibility of customization as Bernd from shavemac do, i.e. shortening the loft was only possible 2 or 3 mm. Stefan has not any Thäters in stock, all are made on order. I am not sure he ships to Norway.

I ordered my first Thater 2-Band Finest Fan, yesterday, a 4125/2 in ivory. I've always avoided in the past because of the high lofts. I like backbone. I'm hoping a 49mm loft in 26mm diameter will come through on that.

I'd be interested to hear your thoughts David. I'm a fan of Thater but I know how you like backbone so I feel it could go either way.

Thanks so much, Lorenz. Stefan does ship to Norway, but only using an expensive DHL service (starting at 30 EUR and minimum order of 100 EUR)... I had an order shipped to Denmark the one time I used Nassrasur. But he is a very nice guy and I just might try to make use of the info you just provided Smile

Thanks, my friend. I know you have also avoided buying for similar reasons. I'll let you know my findings once it has arrived from the US.

I don't mind Thater's higher lofts, and of course the face-feel is exceptional. The only reason I've left them behind is because aesthetically the pronounced bulbs bother me more than they used to. I've come to prefer hybrid-bulbs like those on certain M&F's and current Paladins. And with Shavemac I can ask Bernd to make a knot less pointy and more rounded, which he'll do.

Then again, I wouldn't turn down a 26mm Thater 2-band in a 4376 plexi handle, set to 54mm loft -- something that NassRasur was able to special order fairly recently.
