We are going to keep the sb razor and optional oc plate together as a unit for the passaround. PM if interested. I am not predisposed to limiting the participants nor duration of the passaround.  Want everybody to have an opportunity to try this razor with both baseplates.

Is there anything special that I need to do to use a different handle? I’ve never seen a base plate which such a large circular opening. Will a washer maintain blade rigidity?

IF you want to do it properly, fabricate this:

Otherwise the blade will be secure but not as absolutely rigid as when using the OEM handle which positively locks the blade in akin to BBS1 and WR2 Wolfman razors (maybe even tighter - which is why it gives such a great shave in my opinion).  That stated, Tatara designed the razor head to work with other handles as is but I am one to do things proper or not at all - has been a career killer....

I have the pass around razor and the long screw doesn’t work for all handles. My Above The Tie Atlas handle does not work. My UFO Colibri handle fit, but it doesn’t  hold the blade as securely as the stock handle. I just tried fitting my Weber Bulldog handle and I think it does hold it as secure as the stock handle. I will try it tomorrow and report back.

Does anybody know the interior diameter of the Tatara baseplate center hole?
Has anyone tried either the Blackbird handle, or the 3" Charcoal Goods handle?
The Blackbird has a similar setup, and the Charcoal Goods has a small diameter finial shaft.
I have the C. G. so I will definitely try it when the Nodachi rolls my way.

I provided a detailed, if handdrawn schematic of the insert required. By extrapolation the hole is 6,5mm x 2,5mm as measured by Mitutoyo Electronic calipres

The Blackbird or Charcoal handles won’t fit in the Tatara insert. The Charcoal handles will fit in the Blackbird insert though.

I've had a few shaves with the Nodachi now. I don't have anything to add on finish or build quality that hasn't already been stated, but I will say that the handle looks better in person than in the pictures. I still prefer the look of the original handle though. One thing I've noticed is that the blade feel increases as the angle is moved from shallow to steep, so I think the wide range of comments about blade feel have to do with the angle used. I used the Nodachi handle for the first 2 shaves. The first pass was smooth, but the second pass was a little rough with both shaves. There was too much blade feel on the second pass and it left some irritation. I don't like long handles, so I switched to my UFO Colibri for the next shave and the second pass was better, but the threads on the top cap are just a little too long for the Colibri, so it didn't lock the blade in as well as the stock handle. I have used my Weber Bulldog handle for the last 2 shaves. It locks the blade in like the Nodachi handle, but the shorter length is much more comfortable for me. I used a shallow angle on the first 4 shaves, which provided smooth shaves (once I found the right handle) with some blade feel, but not too much. I did get some delayed irritation with this approach once my hair started growing back. I think it left a sharp edge on my stubble. I decided to change things up today to see if I can get rid of the delayed irritation. I started with a shallow angle on the first pass and used a steeper angle on my second pass. This is my usual approach, but it took me a few shaves to feel comfortable doing that since the blade feel increases with the steeper angle. I have enjoyed using it, but it's not as efficient as I thought it would be. The results are good after the shave, but I have more hair to shave the next day than I do with my more efficient razors. This may have to do with not getting the full benefit of the blade gap since I've been using a shallow angle.

UPDATE: have received notification from Tatara that the OC baseplate has shipped from Portugal. This user is holding the razor and will have an opportunity to employ the more aggressive OC before continuing the passaround to others dans both Nodachi baseplate options. Stay tuned
