It would be interesting to hear from someone who has run this razor on 5 to compare the latter setting to a Wolfman
WR2 0.95mm gap. Something tells me it may be even milder than that one...but I'm happy to be corrected.

Yeah that's what it says every hair and skin type or whatever they say.        Probably is made " designed"  for  every hair and skin type as long as it's within a certain range, I don't know.
Things like that I kind of read over and realize if you really want to know about it just try it.

YouTube is your friend!  Wink  I rely far more on individual reviews (including this forum) than I do on any manufacturer claims.  Maybe a small percentage based on prior brand experience,  but nothing replaces hands-on reports.  You never know for sure until you actually use something, but fortunately most razor makers have a generous return policy.

Well, this is why Im on the forums.....I always read a lot of reviews and watch a lot
of youtube vids when available.

However, sometimes things slip through and errors of judgment get made. Happens to everyone Im sure.

Pretty much what I do too, and it's always hit and miss at least for me.

Edit: Im really starting to enjoy seeing my fellow shavers, get gear that works out fantastic, for them.

Haha. C'mon Tester...deep down you know that claim is marketing BS! They shouldn't print it as it impossible to substantiate. Impossible. You are a smart guy, you know the claim is BS which is why I think you are harping on it. The issue is pretty simple really. You and I are a lot alike in the fact that we still believe words matter as does word choice. Your 1st post on the subject is Exhibit A. You chose your words wisely and carefully because you knew the post would be a little touchy....so you did your best mitigate that. I saw it. I actually read what you typed....several times...and it read the same way, every time. No fingers pointed at T that I saw.

Here is the problem tho. You and I are in a severe minority, as evidenced by your first post and the response you got. Most people can not read and comprehend. Brand loyalty, or sheer ignorance, will have some folks ripping your eyes out. Which is irrational and unfounded. Most guys blow off the marketing BS. I don't. Example: If you sell me a serial numbered razor and you tell me "only 100 produced", then I see pictures of razors with serial numbers in excess of 150, I have a problem with that. There are words that I associate that with. Lie. Fraud. A couple of others too. Even in that instance, I have friends that simply accept it is a marketing hype, pumping up sales kinda thing. All of this said to drive home the point...we are in the minority. Words no longer mean what you would like them to mean. Words get destroyed and devalued. It sucks, but it's 2021. (What is funny here is, someone will pick this post apart and wordsmith it too...totally missing the point. Reddit trolls?) The Tatara should be labeled, "Designed and Built for Hair and Skin". Truthful. Fact based....and it prevents any return snafus.

To answer your question, sorta: I had a Tatara in my den for a little over a week. I used it on 5 with a Feather exactly 1 time. It was lucky I finished with it. It was decently efficient, smooth, and little blade feel. It just wasn't my cup of tea. I used it once, packed it up, and sent it back to it's owner when it was time. I understand why the razor has fans, it really is a good shaver, it just doesn't have the kind of performance I want in a $400 piece of gear (guessing, no clue of msrp). For my skin and my hair, there are much better tools. Just guessing but the T on 5 is probably feels much like a .95 or .105...but cuts as close as a 125ish. Hope this helps.

Given what you say, I am not surprised that what they are describing as "most aggressive feeling" (Setting 5)
is pretty much Wolfman 0.95 WR2 territory....

I guess a true wordsmith would say...don't be silly, when they say "most aggressive feeling", it's obvious they mean
as compared to Setting 1....and I would have no answer to that.

I did a couple reviews #78 & #91, I enjoy the Muramasa for its design and smoothness but as I said earlier, this is an adjustable for guys who prefer little to no blade feel and usually shave with razors on the mild to mid level. I would say the 1-5 on the Muramasa is the dot to about 3 on the Rocnel.

Great post! I love my most aggressive razors and LOOT was the reason why I ordered a WR2 1.65. We both appreciate an aggressive smooth razor. I still love my 2019 Sailor dialed up just over A and the 2020 and 2021 dialed all the way out to a huge gap. I don’t do that often but I do it once in a while to live on the wild side. In saying that, I also love my Muramasa on 4 or 5 and have asked Tatara to make an XL version of this razor with higher gap settings and a longer handle. They responded in a post that they are definitely thinking about this. The Muramasa is selling very well for them and they can’t keep it in stock so we shall see how long it takes for them to make a more aggressive version. That being said, I watched and read several reviews on this one before I purchased it and knew that it was going to be a mild razor for me. I personally bought mine because I loved the innovation behind the adjustment mechanism. I am a collector of a ton of higher end razors and brushes and had to have this one in my stable. I love all of my Adjustables that I have kept. This one is not for everyone and I agree that the wording of it being for all hair and skin types is misleading. Anyway, it will stay in my stable until they release an XL version.

I, too, hit the buy now button due to that innovative adjuster....but soon realised that I need a little more than that
for 400 bucks.

The thing that has me confused is that even the 3/3.5 setting on my Taiga beat the 5 on the Tatara.
That is strange.

Totally different razors. I have the original Taiga with both plates and the new titanium Taiga. These two shave similar but different because of the metal change. I had to get used to the new titanium Taiga and adjust my technique due to the light weight of the titanium. The Muramasa is a totally different animal because of the limited blade feel and adjustment. I do think the efficiency is decent on 4 and 5 but barely any blade feel.

Good post on language, reading, and writing. Marketing has really done a number on us in those areas.. but this would be a good thread for the lounge I bet.
