I have the benefit of other guys reviewing this before me, so I sort of knew what to expect. After seeing their reviews I made sure that I had a twice used Wizamet waiting for it. I started on 3 ATG and immediately realized that it needed to go up, so dialed it to 4 and finished off the ATG portion of the shave, re-lathered and dialed it up to 5 and did the WTG part of the shave. I had to do my normal tough-ups and I was pretty much BBS.

I favor short handles so for me the handle is close to perfect.
Initially my adjustment dial was difficult to move so I added some Vaseline around the O-Ring and that smoothed things out.
(Tatara - you need to give us the size of that O-Ring please)

I'll echo the following.
Its too mild and 1 should be where 3 currently is and the "setting" window is way too small for my eyes.

Then - I have a concern about the black background, I suspect that it may wear off over time and that will make the numbers more difficult to see. I just plan on keeping mine super-clean.

Kudo's to Tatara for bringing something very different to the market...

This is exactly why I purchased this razor. Just received mine, looking forward to try.

So, for those of who have shaved with the Muramasa,  the general consensus thus far is that you are unlikely to be using settings 1, 2, and possibly even 3, going forward?  Or am I misconstruing the sentiment being expressed in the reviews?

I’ve shaved quite a few times now with the Muramasa and have used all settings but one.

Last nights shave was a “maybe there’s enough stubble to sneak in a shave”. I started at neutral blade exposure (3) and then used 2.5 and 2. A nice, close, and comfortable shave.

Even at 2 (-0.7 exposure) I find it to work and allow me to add pressure if needed for those tough spots along the jaw.

5-4-3 are the best gaps for sure, but 2 is no slouch. A full 3 pass shave on 2 worked well, while not lasting as long as when I used other gaps.

The blade is so well clamped, I liken the feeling of it to the General V2. Even looking at the side profiles there is some similarity. The clamping and balance of the razor are what continue to impress me.

I guess I’ve rambled long enough Tongue

Very interesting. I think I’ll wait for some more growth and try a shave on setting 1! Thanks for sharing

Have you used the original Masamune or Nodachi Tony? I'm interested to know how settings 1, 3 and 5 compare.

Fedsbackhand I have not used either, I was able to resist, but once the Muramasa came along... resistance was futile!

As I have both already, it is easier to hold off and I get a pretty good range of shaves by mixing all the parts

I had the Tatara Nodachi Top cap with both the masamune and Nodachi SB baseplate. I sold that set up after comparing it to the muramasa. The new adjustable on a setting of about 2.7 was equal to the Nodachi top and Masamune BP. The setting 4 on the adjustable was very close to the Nodachi top and BP. The Muramasa for me is very usable from 2-5 as a daily shaver. I could not get a good shave on 1 without adding more pressure than I prefer to use. If the numbers were larger and there was a setting 6 this would be a perfect adjustable to me.Do not misunderstand, I am very happy with the muramasa, its a keeper.
