I plan on doing a side by side shave with my Tatara Maramusa, Homelike Taiga and Pearl Flexi. I have recently sold my Rex Ambassador but am familiar with its shave, using it over the past 3 plus years.
Today I did a side by side comparison of the Tatara Maramusa vs the Homelike Titanium Taiga.
The Taiga is Titanium so there might be a slight variation vs the 316 Maramusa but when I did side by side of my SS Taiga vs. the Ti Taiga the results were identical with level 1-6, the razor only goes to 5 on the Ti but it spins around approximately 2 1/2 times so 6 was a 1 spun completely around once. I sold the SS because the Ti was softer in feel and it dialed up to levels only the Rocnel Sailor surpasses.
Pre-Shave Shower
Soap ETHOS Melange de Argumes
After Shave ETHOS Melange de Argumes
Brush Tatara Badger
Blade Wizamet
Both razors set at level 4.
First pass WTG. Both razors were extremely smooth but there was slightly more blade feel on the Tatara. When finished I did a cold water rinse and both sides were DFS. The Taiga was softer in feel but both did a great job.
2nd pas XTG. Again both razors were very smooth but this tim I had slightly more blade feel from the Taiga. Cold water rinse and the Taiga side seemed slightly more complete, I probably could have done a few touch ups and have been done, the Maramusa felt like I needed a full 3rd pass.
3rd pas ATG. Again the Taiga had slightly more blade feel but both razors were extremely smooth going ATG. Cold water rinse and I was BBS on both sides. I did an alum block test and both sides felt very much the same with a little sting near the Adam’s apple. Post shave serum and it was a great shave.
My final thoughts.
Both razors gave extremely smooth shaves with BBS results.  The Taiga has many more levels to go vs the Maramusa which has only one,
The Maramusa is an ingenious design that requires no spring.
Both of these razors are 3 piece for blade loading but can easily be torn apart for deep cleaning.
In my opinion if you prefer a mild to mid aggressive razor I would get the Maramusa, however, if you want to dial up your razor for maximum aggressiveness, I would get the Taiga.
Both of these razors are in the $3-400 range in SS when you include shipping on the Taiga. So in a few days I will compare the Maramusa to the Flexi Pearl, which is an all brass razor costing $80.
This is only my opinion on the comparison and your technique and beard may be different so your results may be different, but I hope this helps some of you as you travel thru the Rabbit hole.

Most people might do a 5-3-2 setup for 3 passes. This works well for me. I really like 2 for cleanup, even though the blade exposure is negative.

I wanna try, maybe you are right. But It is sometimes hard to clean under jaw line with Nodachi, even I soften my beard a lot.
And when I have longer growth, Nodachi requires many passes to clean my face. I like adjustables have higher setting when I need.

That's about how the Nodachi w as for me and below the jawline.
This adjustable just seems like it will be a nice razor, and mechanism to adjust.

Nice comparison, thank you!
What setting/ level did you have on the razors on each of the passes?

I have the Nodachi so if setting 5 on the new adjustable is only slightly more efficient, it’s not worth it to me. It is a fine looking razor for sure!

Excellent review and I am really looking forward to getting both. I think I should have the new 2021 Sailor Slim week after this one and that’s when things will get very interesting. For now, I can try to do a 3 razor comparison and include my 2020 Sailor but I think the Muramasa would be outmatched. Exciting next couple of weeks!

Excellent review as always Mark. That Ti Taiga sounds like it covers a lot of ground efficiency wise.

Today I compared the Pearl Flexi V2 to the Maramusa adjustable on about 44 hours of growth
Soap & AS ETHOS Melange D'Agrumes
Blade Wizamet 2nd use
Brush Rhodium
1st pass WTG. I dialed both razors to their max setting which is 6 on the Pearl and 5 on the Tatara. The weight of the Pearl is definitely noticed but it is well balanced and feels good in the hand. Both razors were very smooth even maxed out, I did note slightly more blade feel on the Pearl. Quick rinse and both razors took down the majority of my beard.
2nd pass XTG. Very little difference in blade feel with this pass and both razors were again, very smooth. I did keep them both at max setting for this pass. I definitely could have stopped here and been DFS and BBS on my cheeks, but what fun would that be so....
3 rd pass ATG. I dialed the Tatara to 3.5 and the Pearl to 4. Both razors sailed thru the ATG pass and I was BBS all around.
The Maramusa is CNC 316 SS (blasted finish) The Pearl is CNC brass with a heavy matted Chrome finish. Slight edge to Maramusa. Both razors will probably out live me!
The Maramusa does not require a spring for it adjustability. Edge Maramusa
The Maramusa can easily be completely torn apart for cleaning the Pearl only breaks down to the 2 pieces.   Edge Maramusa
The Maramusa is about 4 times the cost of the Flexi.  Big edge for Pearl.
The Maramusa is lighter and is slightly more maneuverable with a lower height Top. This advantage depends on the weight you prefer and handle length.
Both razors gave me an excellent shave and I enjoy using both of them.
I do wish the adjustment indicator was larger on the Maramusa and the numbers on the Flexi were more prominent but other than those little details I plan on keeping both.
If I had to choose between the 3 razors I just compared and money was no object I would pick the Titanium Taiga, I prefer its weight and the large variation in shave levels it provides and it still can easily be broken down to clean, but there is a small voice in the back of my head saying the Maramusa doesn’t need a spring.
