Tallow vs. Veggie Soaps

Soap Commander is great post shave. WSP Rustic is remarkable too.

My only beef with either revolves around the containers. Although a good value, the 6oz container from SC is a lot of soap and I like the smaller, seasonal size myself.

WSP looks cool in the smaller tin but it can be a bit of a hassle to load with larger brushes and wish they were more like Jon's or CRSW, etc.

Personally, I have used vegan soaps that are as good as tallow and some even better. That said, US market demands tallow based soaps by at least 5:1 margin. Now comes the size problem, like Kevin says, "a lot of soap" , that's why I'm trying to have 2 oz and 4 oz sizes available in tallow to see how it compares.

My wife would say that I can be very "particular".

Excellent points made by all. I've found for my skin, formulas with tallow and lanolin leave my face feeling the best. Especially in these cold winter months.

I also agree with Kevin about tub size. I much prefer the 4 oz. or less ones. It gives you more freedom to try different products. That is, if you're budget conscious with your shave gear. I imagine those 8 oz. tubs of Catie's or SC lasting an eternity!

Just so I'm clear on veggie soap classification, would that mean any soap that doesn't contain tallow?

Many non-tallow soaps may still contain animal by-product -- for example, stearic acid, glycerin, etcetera, can be sourced from vegetable and animal.
For this reason, terms such as "veggie," or "vegan," or what have you, are misnomers if applied to non-tallow soaps which still contain animal-derived substances. In differentiating a non-tallow soap from a tallow, a term such as non-tallow (for example), would be more consistent.

Very interesting statistic and I had no idea that tallow has a 5x share multiplier.

I find that it makes no difference if its tallow, vegan or glycerin if its a quality well made soap it provides what I need. Barrister & Mann used to make several vegan soaps but Will stopped making them earlier last year I think. I used the B&M Vetyver Santal vegan soap this morning and it was very nice indeed. I also really like The Holy Black glycerin soaps, they're great performers and smell awesome. I also really like the tallow soaps I have. I think its important to have quality options out there as there are people who can't use tallow based soaps for religious or lifestyle choice reasons.

I mainly love the after shave feel.

Hector, have you tried the Soap Commander Soaps?. They leave my face feeling just as moisturized as Tallow based soaps. And I do like my Tallow Soaps.

So as a whole it has been the slickness and face feel. I though have been venturing into veggie based soaps. Tim's is in my top 3 soap brands at the moment. Actually Tim's is my only veggie soap at them moment now that I think about it.

Soap Commander, and WSP's Fougere Noire intrigue me.

Mainly at this point I want good scent and good performance. If it looks like I am going to get that from veggie soap then I will go with that.

I feel the same about the containers. I wish SC would offer a 3 or 4oz size for all their scents. The larger sizes are fine for people that use one soap at a time but when you rotate many I think they are too bIg. I would buy more Catie's and SC if they were smaller. Catie's is now offering 4oz but no scents that interest me yet, but I'm sure they will offer more soon.

Between SC and WSP I prefer SC.
