What's your preference in a shave soap?

I prefer a good tallow over a bad veggie. But I also prefer a good veggie over a bad tallow.

Wink

In winter, tallow soaps are a bit more suitable to my skin but I use both in the other times of the year.

I'm not fussed as long as performance and scent are excellent.

+1 Having said that most of my favorites are Tallow soaps, but some just have high concentrations of stearic acid.

All things being equal, I would choose the tallow soap.

I have a hard time discerning the difference if both are a high quality soap. I guess that means I have no preference, though most of my favorites do tend to fall in the tallow camp...L&L, Stirling, B&M, Crowne & Crane...

I have vegan and tallow both from Crowne & Crane and I cannot tell a difference in terms of performance at all...

I definitely prefer tallow, but I'll use good veggie soaps as well. I tend to have dry-ish skin so I think it likes the extra fat.

IME, it's both more difficult and more expensive to create a vegan soap that matches or surpasses a tallow soap in many of the usual performance categories.

This is why I use vegan soaps made by artisans that meet or exceed this standard. With that in mind, my soaps are now pretty much interchangeable. Now I just choose by scent.

By the way, there is another thread where the same question was asked. Here’s the link, just for extra illumination:

To answer the question: both tallow and vegan, as long as I get to pick my favorites. Smile There are some amazing soaps in both camps.
