I'm surprising the wife this Christmas with a trip to Walt Disney World. We are huge disney fans and frequently go to Disneyland here in California, but this will be the first time either of us have been to WDW, let alone Florida. We'll also be heading over to Universal Orlando to check out the Harry Potter World. Just finished booking our trip last night! I'm not sure who will be more excited!

We've been talking about taking this trip for almost 10 years... and have put it off because we thought it would be too expensive. Granted, it's not a cheap trip by any means but it's nowhere near as expensive as I thought it would be.

Who else has been? We are staying at Port Orleans Riverside. Anyone have any "must see/do" recommendations for us? Or advice?

I was just at Port Orleans Riverside in October. It is a gorgeous hotel. To be honest, we didn't spend much time there, but it was still nice. When we go we are in the parks from open to close.

Did you get park hopper passes? How many days will you be there? Any kids with you or just you & your bride?

Just us two, we don't have kids yet. We didn't get park hopper either for WDW, I figured it would be worthless since we've never been before and we want to focus on one park at a time. Plus, doesn't it take forever to get from park to park? Not like with Disneyland where it's a short walk across the plaza to the other park.

Since it is your first time then it is probably best to take your time at each park. My wife and I have been several times so we park hop to enjoy our favorites at each park.

It does take some time to go from one park to another, but the shuttles move you pretty quickly. Since it is just the two of you there will be no problem getting to everything and taking it all in despite how overwhelming it can be. Firewkorks and the light parade are amazing each time. We like to go to the Polynesian on our first night after we check in at our hotel (we've never stayed at the Polynesian) to get on the beach and watch the fireworks from there. They even have a light show out on the water.

SharpSpine The Polynesian for fireworks eh? I'll have to remember that. We'll be there for 5 nights so that should be do-able. Thanks for the tip!

Hey @handlebarsupply , fantastic gift and I bet you will have a blast!

I have been in/out of Orlando a number of times for work but actually never visited the park!

Look forward to stories and pics later.

I probably won't post many photos of our trip here on DFS, but I know I'll do a fair amount of sharing on my personal Instagram account @kodiakattack
