Brush: Thater 28mm
Soap: A&E - Eigengrau
Aftershave: Chatillon Lux - Taum Sauk
Blade: Perma-Sharp

Great shave last night after a long day. I sure love the Winning Razor, although I will admit it’s an odd one. The suction thing is something I got use to, but I’m sure many will hate. It seems like a design oversight… too many large, flat edges. It needs some scallops in there to “break the seal” so to speak. But then again, it wouldn’t be an ultra-cheap razor if it had more intricate machining. Either way, I got a super close, smooth shave last night!

I used the Winning razor last night. A close shave, far beyond what I would imagine it would give. After reading your post it struck me... I wonder if that suction is intentional. Perhaps that is what allows it a closer shave than it should ever get with these specs (.50mm gap; neutral exposure)? If we scalloped it ourselves, I bet it would loose efficiency.

Just a thought. It's definitely a great, cheap razor. Albeit, the odd-ball, red-headed step child of the razor community.

I would be very surprised if they intentionally designed the razor to have suction, or others may even describe it as "drag"... but ya never know.

Personally, I think they just asked Yates to make a stainless razor at an ultra-low price point. The result is a razor with tooling/cutting, polishing, etc kept to an absolute bare minimum.

All that said, at the end of the day its a 100% stainless steel razor, Made in the USA and cost me ~$40 brand new/shipped. It gives me super close comfortable shaves (even if the "feel" is weird). I'm super happy with it overall.... so much so, that I traded one of my brush handles for another "back-up".

PS. As I mentioned way back in my Journal, I did hand-sand my Winning Razor with 600 & 800-grit wet/sandpaper and polished it with Maas Metal Polish. It gave it a more finished/polished look and seems to glide a hair better now.

Razor: Tatara Nodachi
Brush: Zenith 24mm Boar
Soap: McDuff’s - Badlands
Aftershave balm: 345 - Fresh Cut Fade
Blade: Feather

New razor in the Den, and wow, it delivered in spades. Very smooth feel, very efficient, plenty aggressive and of course high-quality. I want more shaves with it before I start saying this is the best thing since sliced bread, but it sure seems like it! I saw several reviews online that compared it to a Blackland Blackbird, yet smoother. I own a Blackbird and that seem like a solid analogy to me.
