Hello friends. It was an early 5 AM shave this morning with some of my favorite gear. Then a brisk 30 minute motorcycle ride to the Refinery out on the Bay. I was likely the best smelling biker on the interstate.

9 hours in a mask… here we go. It also recently occurred to me that I got into my handle turning hobby during the pandemic… ironic that I became enamored with a hobby that requires a mask.

What a great shave today. This is my second time using the Birch & Root sample. What I learned is this soap needs a ton of water and I had to spend some time working it. The result was a killer lather.

The scent is incredible and quite strong. I get the rich root-beer out front but also a nice balance of a woodsy/tree scent. I suppose it’s birch, but reminds me of fir or spruce. The post shave feel is elite level to the point I didn’t feel like I even needed aftershave.

So, thanks Paul for sharing this sample with me. I’m going to definitely order up a couple McDuff soaps. Has anyone tried any of the other scent offerings from them? Happy to take some recommendations!
