I'm also impressed with the handle Paul. Thanks for the detailed writeup too.

Fantastic first casting, the handle looks great! If you can work with CA, polishing resin should be a cinch lol. What product did you go with, if you don’t mind my asking?

Alumilite. So far, it seems difficult to get a super glossy polish on it. There must be a trick to it...

I tried three different kinds of resin when I got started casting, and had the same issue with Alumilite. I got the best results from Silmar 41, though the stuff stinks to high heaven. I’ve heard good things about Liquid Diamond as well, but never tried it.

Thanks for the info. Did you use a pressure pot? I need to find some good dyes/mica powder too... the local craft store did t have much

Today’s Handcraft:

I’ve had this little 22mm knot sitting around forever. Figured I’d finally make a handle for him.

Added white and a hint of gold dye.

No polishing on the handle yet... just sanding... and I kinda like the matte acrylic look! Might just leave it.

I did use a pressure pot that was converted from a Harbor Freight paint pot, which is pretty common. There are several diy videos for it and it just took a few bucks in extra hardware. I picked up a lot of mica powder from a couple different places. I can’t remember which ones right off hand but I’ll pm you the info when I dig it up. One sold sample sizes, which was great because a little goes a very long way and I could test several colors on the cheap.
