It has been roughly 3 months since I started using straight razors exclusively. I don;t actually know how long it's been, but I am guess at right around the 3 month mark...about 80-90 shaves with straights....anyhoo...

In that time, I have gathered quite a reasonable collection of functional straights. 6, to be exact, with 1 still in the restoration process that will eventually be a very functional razor as well.

I have enough shaves under my belt to know that I prefer square points to round points. I also prefer heftier blades, so less hollow blades are in my favor. They are simply more enjoyable for me to shave with. This is a reflection of preference, not performance.

So here is your chance to get a good, quality vintage straight that has simply been overlooked by preference.

Here's the rules:

1-You must be an active member of the community with at least 25 quality posts to participate. If you do not have 25 quality posts...get to posting!

2-You must be interested in learning to shave with a straight razor. If you win this PIF, and decide after trying it that straight razors are not your "thing", YOU MUST NOT SELL THIS RAZOR!!!. It MUST be passed along to another individual in the true spirit of "Pay it forward". If you cannot agree to this, please do not enter. This PIF is truly about paying it forward and giving other people an opportunity to try something they may not otherwise be able to afford. Please be honest with this.

3-You must live in the continental United States. I apologize to our international members, but I simply cannot undertake the stress and expense of shipping overseas. Even if you cover the cost of shipping, the stress of sending something that far will eat at me every day, and I simply cannot have that additional stress in my life. Please understand and forgive me this.

4-You must post "I'm in" in this thread to be eligible.

Entries are open until it makes sense to close them.  I will watch the topic and give fair enough warning that entries will close. I want everyone interested to have an opportunity.

Winner will receive a Geneva Cutlery 5/8 round point extra hollow ground razor, honed and stropped. It will be shave-ready to my standards, and will come oiled to prevent rust. The winner will need only to rinse off the mineral oil with warm water before shaving with it.  The first shave will not need to be stropped. It will be up to the winner to get a strop for use prior to subsequent shaves.  I will also offer 1 honing session to the winner. This can be redeemed at any time, but you will need to pay shipping. If you roll the edge stropping, or shave with it for 6 months until it tugs...either way, when it needs to be re-honed, contact me and we will work it out, if you havent already started doing it yourself.

That's it. That simple. An easy way for someone that has always wanted to try straight razor shaving but has been intimidated by cost, to give it a shot without breaking the bank.

For clarification sake, this is not the same razor offered to a member directly in a different topic. I am still waiting to hear from that member if they are interested in that offer. If they are not interested, that razor will also be offered in a PIF like this one...

Thanks for playing along!!

Edited to add:
I had offered another round point razor to someone, but that individual is not quite ready to move to straights. SO...TWO winners will be chosen at random!

In addition to the Geneva Cutlery 5/8 extra hollow, I will also be choosing someone to win a Gold Dollar 300 6/8 round point full hollow. This is not a vintage razor, but it is a very decent shaver and a good introduction to straights. This one has a little bit of uneven hone wear on it. It was like that when I got it. I have no idea who honed it previously. Before I send it out, I will dull it down and bring it back up to my standards so the winner will be shaving on a fresh blade. Same as above, the razor will be honed, stropped and ready to shave with.

you need 3 more...get posting!! As long as you have at least 25 when I draw the winner, you are fine.

You will soon Smile

Great PIF Chris- you must be one of the most generous guys I know. Well done. I am not in as I have so much stuff going on right now that tackling the straights is not in the cards.

I do hope that whoever wins will also chronicle their journey into straights as I definitely plan on giving it a go later this year and following along would be both interesting and helpful!

Well, I can't really take that kind of credit...

Generosity would imply that I get nothing in return. That's not entirely true. Good Karma is never bad to have on your side...

Chris, you continue to amaze.  This is just a fantastic PIF.  Obviously, I am not in but I have to tell you that sometimes you almost make me want to try a straight again (almost being the operative word Big Grin ).

I hope whoever wins this has as much success with this type of razor as you have had. Happy2
