Standard Razor

Community, for anybody that has wanted to try a Standard razor, Bespoke Post has a box called The Barber for $45 if you subscribe. Add the discount code "Addicted" and it nets out at $33.75 for the razor in either black or raw grey (normally $65) as well as some blades, soap and alum.

Not a bad deal! I went ahead and bit the bullet as some of the other boxes look interesting and it is my understanding that it is easy to cancel the subscription later.

Wow that's a great deal ! Even at $45 just for the standard razor is a great. Thanks for the heads up definitely going to order one.

I thought so too- in fact just got a Massdrop email this morning and they have the Standard for $50 (which is a decent price I feel).

Fairly decent price I think as well but at $34 it won't get any better than that.

My Bespoke Post box arrived. Very pleased with the contents. Extremely well packaged and great presentation the razor is very well finished although I think it may be light for my tasted. I will give it a go and it may be that I use a heavier handle to add some heft. Regardless, look forward to trying here in a few weeks after No Shave November comes to an end.

The NY Shaving Elizabeth St. cream is a smaller, sampler size for which I am pleased as I am heavy on soaps currently but the scent is solid. Derby blades, not my favorite but the GSB's are solid and nice addition.

The Gentleman Jon alum block gives me an excuse to try alum. I have never used it prior believe it or not.

The towel, is thin and not all that useful IMHO as a shave towel but will put to good use nonetheless.

Overall, for just over $30 I am pleased with the box!

The only negative about Bespoke is that they ship only to US and Canada. They have some very nice offers though.

I will take a closer look Nick- it was in a ziplock, fully assembled and wrapped in bubble wrap so no packaging. Perhaps it is stamped and I will let you know!

@nikos.a Hey Nick, I double checked the razor and it is stealth- no "Made In" stamp etc. so not sure country of origin.

As mentioned it appears to be well crafted and look forward to shaving after No Shave November is up for me.

My only possible knock is that it is REALLY light but will represent a nice change of pace I am sure.

Hard to believe that it has been two months since I received the Standard razor from Bespoke. I have maintained my subscription with those guys and very much enjoy the boxes thus far.

To the point at hand, I finally pulled the Standard razor out and loaded a blade [mine is the flat black "stealth" finish as previously mentioned].

The finish is solid and even. I like the flat aspect quite a bit. On loading a blade, I was actually very surprised at the amount of blade exposure and gap. I was expecting something with a bit less teeth!

I found the razor to be quite easy to use- most effective angle apparent, quite a bit of audible response too. I was somewhat concerned about the handle but it was very secure, despite lack of knurling, and provided great grip.

The shaves themselves were very nice, including trouble areas such as my neck area. Over the weekend I did 4x shaves without any irritation, weepers, etc. Today, a 3x shave provided a solid DFS if not slightly better. On the whole I was impressed with the effectiveness of the razor.

Concerns:

The weight is a bit off putting for me though. I like heavier razors and handles generally speaking and this by far is my lightest razor. It didn't cause any immediate issues but it was very noticeable and something that would not be easily remedied based on the construction.

Which brings me to my second minor concern. Standard uses a bi-threaded post, secured to the handle vs. the head so that you cannot easily swap handles to something heavier. I have heard that you may remove the post and thread to the head with Loctite but not worth the minimal effort for me based on return so I will stick with the stock setup.

Overall a decent little razor, something different and for $33 with the other goodies I feel quite a good deal. If you like lighter razors then I would say it is sure to please.

Ah kwsher you beat me to it, I was going to do a similar review of the Standard after my shave today lol But I agree on all points, it's a very efficient razor for me, and I get no irritation from it as well. I'm very impressed and I got it from Bespoke as well

However, with my razor, when I unscrew it the post for me does actually stay in the head of the razor not the handle.




Have you tried carefully trying to unscrew the post from the handle? Might work, and that would allow you to add a heavier handle. Not sure, maybe mine isn't doing what it's supposed to but it works out for me?
