I am a big fan of Spam. The Hormel canned meat. It is as simple as it comes for a canned prepared food product with only 6 ingredients:
Pork, water, salt, modified potato starch, sugar and sodium nitrite. It is supposedly the same recipe since 1937 when it was first produced. There have been over 7 Billlion cans sold in that time.

I like to keep it on hand as an emergency food. But I also like it. I grew up in a family of 7 people. We had Spam as a breakfast meat but also for dinner.
As a Boy Scout it was taken on every camping trip. Alas my lovely bride finds it disgusting so I don't often eat it.

But today I had a hankering so I fried some up and made Spam and cheese sandwich on toasted bread. It was yummy. So much so that I fried another piece and ate it plain. Hmmm Hmmm good.

My father and brothers ate it cold on sandwiches. I never liked it cold and always pan fry it. My favorite way to have it is with over easy eggs. Next is as the meat in an "Egg McMuffin" sandwich.

They have the best ever branded store: Spam Shop. I may have to get a few trinkets Big Grin

Truly, the most disgusting thing ever invented.  I wouldn't feed it to my worst enemy (wellllll, maybe I would  Evilgrin ).  It's like opening up a salt shaker and just dumping the contents down your throat.  Blech! Sick

I gotta agree with you on that one. Well, about the salt anyway. There's SO much salt in it, it almost burns to eat it.

Spam is alright, but it is very salty as others have mentioned. I haven't had it in ages though. The only way to eat it is how you made it Phil. Pan fried and put on a sandwich with American cheese.

I have plenty of fond memories of my grandmother frying up some spam burgers when I was a kid. Toasted bun with Lettuce, tomatoe, & cheese. Awesome!

This is also coming from a guy who's hunting trip diets consists of Vienna sausage, sardines, saltiness crackers, potted meat, & packs of nabs. Big Grin

I used to think spam was made from pig rectums and such. But it's made from Boston Butt. Boston butt is actually shoulder. Shoulder makes for some of the best BBQ, and that's what led me to the following since I make southern BBQ.

Spam takes on an even better role after it's been smoked. It's truly delicious smoked and then fried. I'll set up the smoker and let the neighbors know to bring their spam over. I'll smoke enough for a year. It's an absolutely awesome product.

Gents, there is low sodium spam but I don't much care for it.

Andrew, you must know of Taylor Pork Roll. That's another item I make to get my "fix". We love the stuff, but my homemade is better than the original. That reminds me, we need to make our knock off "Taylor ham" for the year before the weather warms up.
