I am a tallow, leather, vetiver soap guy.

However...

I read some positive comments about Southern Witchcraft vegetable soap.  So I ordered the sampler pack of 12.

Here's some observations

  • The samples are generous enough to get a sense of the scent and performance.
  • The performance is as good as most tallow soaps and superior to most non-tallow soaps
  • The scent profiles are, shall I say, "non-mainstream"
  • I've passed along 8 scents. Four remain for further consideration.
  • I'm hopeful to find a scent profile that is satisfactory to me because I really like the shave I get using the soap.
  • The sampler set was a worthy purchase.
  • And, lastly, YMMV.  These are my observations.

Thanks for the great review.  I'm a big fan of sampler sets.  They allow you to get a good sense of various aspects of the product be it soap, post shave, razorblades or whatever without having to break the bank.  I wish more artisans/vendors would do it.  Happy2

I agree that Southern Witchcrafts is a top soap regardless of the source of fats. Like you, I bought a sampler and found a few that I would buy again, including Necromantic and Tres Matres. (I have also bought the Fougere Nemata and really like that as well.)

I've bought so many soaps that I have stopped making full-sized blind buys. If I can't get a sample of a new scent (or soap), I'm not going to buy it. I know I'm missing out but it's not worth the risk of having to re-sell a soap I don't like when I own so many that I love.

I had my eye on Southern Witchcrafts as well. The scents do hold me back as they sound strange but it does seem to be their gimmick.

Desairoligy and drumantia sounded the most up my alley.

I love the SW base but I haven't found a scent that I liked yet. Druantia was decent and I don't feel like experimenting with more scents. Their unscented base, Incorporeal is excellent though. I can mix it with scenting oils to match my scent preference.

I just got in the Druantia, but haven't used it yet. In the tub, the scent is quite nice... a mellow woodsy scent.
The soap itself is quite pretty, it actually sparkles like crystals in the light.
I'll post my thoughts here after I get around to using it.

Which ones have you tried? I had a hard time pulling the trigger on trying them, but I've found they're not as far in left field as I had thought they'd be.

I’d consider Tres Matres a pretty safe scent from them, it’s very nice and not as out there as some of the other ones can seem.

Drunatia and Labyrinth are the only offerings I find I would get a tub of. Valley of the ashes, Tres Matres are ok but not likely to get a tub.
