SOTD - To much info? Bragging?

...Im all about the shave. Your all about the self given prestige of using a 50$ soap and a 300$ razor.  I couldn't care at all what you use or what it cost. I get better shaves using little old tabac and Palmolive and erasmic and a 20$ razor made in 1944.

And you are only showing that you have not taken even the slightest bit of time to peruse the forum and get a feeling for it, before creating this self-induced paranoia that everyone is against you. If you HAD taken the time, you would know that nobody actively participating here cares one iota about the things you think we do. None of us.

And even if some of us do, it doesn't matter, because there is still mutual respect, appreciation, and comeraderie around wet shaving.

You choose to isolate and alienate yourself from that. Nobody is doing that here, on this forum, except you, yourself...

Well put, Chris! I found it odd that you were the target of higher priced gear. Reading posts by you over the months, one thing (well, several things) have stood out: you are a do-it-yourself kind of guy, handy with tools and able to fix most anything. To accuse you of being an expensive item only snob made me smile and sigh at the same time. You have posted several times on how to get started with DE or straights WITHOUT breaking the bank! And as pointed out, you have PIF'd or offered to help numerous times. I find you to be a great asset to this forum.

I have gotten discouraged with negative posts and threads here, at our Damn Fine Shave forum. I haven't stepped in to post something positive, hoping someone else would. But I think I need to take some of Chris's advice, and get active about what I care about. It isn't enough to try and ignore the bad influences; I must be doing something that shows the good and gets us back to several months ago, topics more in line with learning, growing, sharing, and less bashing this, that, and the other thing.

Rant over. time to go legally sell drugs (a little pharmacy humor, very little!)

I think part of what we are seeing lately is, unfortunately, residual divisiveness spilling over from the outside world and trying to infiltrate our peaceful forum.

I think people have sadly come to expect argumentative behavior and divisive exclusion on the internet, and for some people, it doesn't matter what is actually happening in front of them because they already have the whole scenario played out in their imagination.

I don't think this guy was responding to me as much as he was playing out a role he created for himself in his own little vigilante script.

Like you observed there has never been anything in any of my posts or photos to indicate a large collection of expensive habits...

As I had mentioned, previously in this thread, I enjoy seeing what other folks are using and appreciate their photographs. I love viewing the plethora of interpretations of views in pictures. They are all quite unique!

I take my SOTD photos, principally, for myself, as it is a lovely form of expressiveness, contemplation and sharing.

Thanks for your words, Eric. I agree — there’s something about smiling that I rather enjoy more than feeling frustrated or angry. I hope we could cultivate the positive side of things, and if there’s ever anything negative to say, express it in a polite, kind manner. I just think the world needs more of those two qualities.

And when it comes to Shave of the Day photos and comments, I say, keep on posting, everyone. If you have a piece of unobtainium, don’t hide it — I want to share your excitement of having found it. If you have mad photo skills, share those, too. And if you have neither, please don’t let that keep you from posting. We all have something in common — this hobby. So let’s keep sharing it with each other and letting it bring some joy into our every day lives.

All the artsy shots are fun to look at but they set unrealistic expectations for the youngins...
I don't have the time or the desire really to take many photos. I would obsess over the thing and spend more time getting a picture than I do actually shaving.

Studio shots are trivial to do. Artsy shots are very difficult to do as they require vision. "Youngins" only need an iPhone and some vision. And that vision is the really hard part. Any good photographer will tell you that the equipment and technical part is easy. The artistic side is difficult and anyone, young or old, can be artistic.

Perhaps we are no longer setting the bar high enough for the "Youngins" these days.

A well balanced picture that is a lot more than equipment and like using a straight razor, the more you do it, the better you should get.

You'd think he'd get the hint by now. I know people like this who always seem to be having some form of conflict. Always, everywhere they go, with almost everybody. Strangers on the street, other drivers, clerks, co-workers, family, "friends". It must be a hard life in a world where everybody else is an idiot.

I enjoy the SOTD thread and am appreciative of those that participate.  We have some truly gifted photographers that create beautiful pics and I'm grateful they share with us.  

We also have folks that take a quick snap with their camera and it isn't artistic.  I would encourage these folks to keep on posting.  I'm one of them.  While the quick snaps from  us pale in comparison to the great ones, they are folks taking time to share their classic shaving journey.  

I've been so busy with work that I haven't posted lately.  I'll also say that I've always gotten very, very nice comments on shots like the ones below.  Nothing expensive or fancy.

Who knows, Pete, but why would anyone even want to bother? I'm always surprised when the only reason someone would be like this is for no other reason than to cause unnecessary disruption.

My best guess would be mental illness. My life journey has brought me into contact with mentally ill people that behave like some of the Internet trolls. By chance, I came across a thread with posts by someone previously given a lifetime ban. I then saw some of these current posts and noticed similarities in the writing style.

Just a guess on my part though. The great thing about DFS is that you all catch them pretty quickly, give them ample chance to change their behavior and use the lifetime ban as a last resort.
