Really great orange-centered shave this morning. Then coffee with hrfdez who is a ton of fun and has so many great stories/insights and is the nicest guy. Great Saturday so far!

That's funny, Freddy, because I went all-orange today, too. There must really be something in the air.

Went with the Beach for my soap and aftershave since that is where we are heading for the week, but first a visit to New Orleans for the weekend. The Rudy Vey boar brush is a monster!!!!

I used the Notso setting again and it is perfect for me. I find it hard to believe how effortlessly this razor removes stubble. I do my 3 passes with a touch of cleanup and doesn't even feel like I've shaved. Cold water rinse, feel my face, and a darn near BBS, much to my surprise.
I know Tom is looking for information to tweak and perfect his razor, but in my opinion, and from my shaves you are already there Tom. To everyone else YMMV.
I have re thought my opinion of the rivets and/or screws. I would stick with the rivets.

The new Rocnel razor handle and stand arrived from Turkey yesterday. These stainless steel pieces are really well made. The machining looks very good. While these do not appear to be polished, the finish off of the lathe seems really fine for the price.

I grated this Savonnerie du Bon Berger shaving soap and pressed it into a one cup glass bowl before this shave. The first time I used this soap, I could sense the potential of the soap, but it comes as a small diameter tall puck that I just couldn't seem to load up the brush from very easily. Grated, spread out, and pressed into the bowl solved this problem. I managed a very nice slick rich lather this time around.

It's been a couple years since I've purchased a PAA soap. As most of you know, the containers have changed to the more traditional plastic jars. While I was a fan of the over-sized tins of old, they were a little cumbersome on the narrow shelf in my shower. I do appreciate the translucent plastic containers with waterproof labels. It's an overall nice, durable presentation.

In addition to the packaging, there have been marked improvements in the soap formula. The lather was easy and dense as usual, but slickness was very good and out-performs my old tins of CaD, Speakeasy, and Cavendish. It looks like I need to upgrade those.

Something PAA has never lacked is bold and accurate scents. Spring-Heeled Jack is the first coffee-scented soap and splash I've used that pulls off a coffee scent without a creamy undertone. There's still some sweetness, but it's more of a chicory sweetness, so I'll abide that.

My only complaint is about the splash is the inclusion of alum in their alcohol splashes. I know it's a personal favorite of Douglas', and alum is a post-shave staple for lots of wet shavers. Unfortunately, I'm one of those who suffers from a pretty bright red skin reaction to alum. I endure it, regardless, because I enjoy the overall effects after the redness settles down which ends up being about 20 minutes.

PAA has made some great improvements on an already excellent product. It looks like I'll have to dig back into their website and pick out a few more crazy scents as well as upgrade my current ones.
