I bought a Vikings Blade Emperor Meiji several days ago and, frankly, my first shave with it wasn't terribly impressive: lots of irritation and tons of blade feel.
So I went back to the drawing board, watched some videos on YouTube, read a few more reviews, etc.
I decided my first attempt was perhaps a bit too aggressive and that I needed to throttle back on the setting a bit. I dialed it back from a 5.5 or 6 (I think I even flirted with the 9 setting for one pass) and went with a 2.5. And a new Derby Extra blade, which I've found to be relatively mild. I lathered up with one of my favorite soaps, Proraso Green, and held my breath.
It was a delightful shave, a revelation; no irritation, greatly reduced blade feel, just a nice, pleasant shave. Not necessarily the smoothest I've ever had but quite good. A solid 9/10.
I exhaled.
Good.
It wasn't a mistake after all. It's a good razor, capable of delivering an excellent shave.
I love the feel of the thing. It's big and meaty and the TTO mechanism operates beautifully. It appears to be really well-made.
I'm very pleased.
