A very gratifying shave today. I used my newly arrived, fresh from Jermyn Street,
"88" Shave Soap for the first time, and I love it. The scent is very different from anything I have used before, but I have taken to it like a duck to water. But, I can see how others might be put off by the scent ... I suppose it's not for everyone!
The Weyersberg
Corneta has been my "problem child" for years .. actually, since the day I bought it. I could just never get the edge that I felt was in it .. I could get good shaves off it, but not great shaves! Well, this morning it was introduced to Penelope, my vintage coticule of unknown origin, with the matching slurry stone, which I usually don't use with it because it's so difficult to raise much of a slurry. Today I took the time and used just a wisp of slurry, through three dilutions to finish. Penelope is one of a very few "can't miss" stones! I don't know where I stepped the day I bought it on a whim, but the stars must have been aligned for me. In any case, not only did the
Corneta deliver the best shave I've ever gotten off it, it produced a shave as good as I've come to expect from the upper echelon of razors! Very impressive... especially considering it's shortcomings!
So, I'm pleased! Pleased with my new soap. Pleased with Penelope. And pleased that the nice little
Corneta finally lived up to what I felt was there all along! It's been a productive day...
