SOTD MONDAY MORNING, FEBRUARY 22, 2021

Woke up to a balmy 29°F with the same white blanket of snow everywhere! Today’s task was to dial in the Rex Ambassador after experiencing some irritation on the back of the dome yesterday! Suspecting it might be the slightly wider Kai blade, I swapped it out for a Sharp Star, and that seemed to resolve the issue, although I did take my usual two ATG passes quite slow and easy on the tender part of the noggin. Note to self, after the back of my gourd settles down, I ‘ll take the Rex out for another spin with the Kai. In the attempt to balance things out, I grabbed the Diamond Hayashi Nichiri Tokusen 6/8, after a quick touch up on the jasper stone last night. The three pass mug shave, as a UK shave buddy is fond of saying was “divine “! This razor never fails to deliver! I do love Japanese silver steel! I feel refreshed, clean, and velveteen smooth!

RAZOR: Diamond Hayashi Nichiri Tokusen 6/8 (Mug), Rex Ambassador (Dome)
BLADE: Sharp Star DE
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a scrub with Argan Oil
BRUSH: Viking Silvertip Badger
SOAP: Mitchell’s Wool Fat
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by a rinse with Humphreys Lilac WH. Finished with Pre de Provence Bergamot & Thyme AS Balm.

February 21, 2021 SOTN
Prep: Cold water
Brush: AP ShaveCo Cashmere Fan
Razor: Rockwell 6s plate 4
Blade: Wizamet (1)
Lather: Southern Witchcrafts Durantia
Lather Bowl: Captains Choice Copper
Post Shave: Southern Witchcrafts Durantia Splash
Post Shave: AoS unscented balm

Notes:

I enjoyed my shave with the Rockwell 6s. I understand why it is such a popular razor. I would recommend this razor without hesitation. The SW base, which is vegan, is excellent. Very sick. Very creative scent as well. I’m glad to get the opportunity to try it.

Just so you know my reasoning, because we have members from all over the world, there is no one perfect time to post the new week's SOTD.  Living in San Diego, California as I do, I am in the Pacific time zone.  To try and make it as convenient as possible for as many members as possible, I usually post the new weekly SOTD at 4:00P.M. Pacific Standard or Daylight Savings Time on Saturday. (That can fluctuate between about 3:40 P.M. and 4:30 P.M. depending on whether or not I'm busy with something else or, frankly, I have forgotten.)  That makes it midnight in the United Kingdom and Portugal and either 1:00 A.M. or 2:00 A.M. in much of the rest of Western Europe where a significant number of our members live.  Therefore, while most of us in the United States and Canada are still sleeping our European friends can start posting and not have to wait for me to get my lazy self out of bed.  That also means that those of us in North America will have the new SOTD ready when those members get up or even for those who like to post their Sunday shave the night before.  Again, this is far from perfect and this probably isn't great for our members in Australia, New Zealand, or large parts of Asia and eastern Europe but it's the best I could come up with.

Again, I'll bring it up with Andrew, HoosierShave, Marko, and Matsilainen and we'll see if we can do anything about your concerns.
Everything you say makes sense Freddy, and I don't see how the timezone issue will ever go away.  However and FWIW, sometimes timezones are not the problem.  The shaver I had in mind from this morning is an accomplished shaver and has generally sharp wits about him, but he lives in Pennsylvania, took his eye off the ball, and posted well into the new time period.  I myself have made the same mistake on occasion.  But in any case, I realize there is not always a magic bullet for these things, besides which, it is not exactly the worst problem a forum could have.   Thanks for for time and efforts.

Gents, andrewjs18 has found a workaround for moderators to set times for threads to become active and/or inactive.  I tried using it but haven't been able to figure it out.  Sadly, for me, even basic computer use can be rocket science. Confused  If I can figure it out then I'll start putting it to use next week.  Andrew has already set this week's SOTD to close at a specified day and time.  So, if you don't see any changes in the coming weeks then it's on me. Cry

Happy   Happy  Many thanks to andrewjs18, and to you as well Freddy!

The Schick once again was rough, making the aftershave really sting, and I have plenty of razor blades, so the blade and its brethren went into the recycling.
