Prep: Hot shower
Pre: Proraso - Sandalwood
Soap: OSP - Bay Rum
Bowl: Woodhead Pedestal
Brush: Vie-Long Horse Hair 13061M
Razor: Valet Autotrop VC-1
Blade: De-spined Gem (2)
After: WH, Krampert's Bay Rum AS, C&E Sandalwood ASB

This is my second use of my newly acquired Valet Autostrop VC-1 and it felt just as rough as the first use. It's a new Gem blade which might account for the scrapiness but I'm thinking I'm just not suited to a razor this closely evolved from a naked razor blade. Finished with a close shave but wasn't a comfortable one and a bit tender afterwards. I can't blame the soap as this OSP created wonderful protective lather.

Now it could be I just need to practice but this doesn't feel like fun anymore and the lure of my other comfortable/easy SEs is much stronger.
Maybe it's a duff blade, so I'll get another Gem blade that I've used and know is good, de-spine it and try in this razor as a last chance.

Enjoy your Sunday, folks.

Mike, your experience with this razor very much matches mine. I have three different Autostrop razors and have never really had a comfortable shave from any of them, even when using blades that were made for razors like them.  I keep the razors as curiosities but don't shave much with them anymore.

#SOTD: 2/21/2016 - "Seeing Green"

Soap: @soapcommander Green #SeasonalScentCrew tester
Brush: #pavbrushworks "Ghost Trails" Tulip 3-Band
Razor: Gem Micromatic Open Comb w/ PTFE Stainless Blade
Post: @brut Aftershave Splash

I'm so #torn on these #SeasonalScentCrew testers. It's down to two of them for me and I really can't decide.
Oh, well. A #fantastic neck and head shave today (the wife has requested the beard come back for a time), and smelling great for church!
