SOTN Saturn's Day
prep - shower with Caprina Fresh Goat’s Milk Original Formula bar soap
razor - Edwin Jagger DE87
blade - Astra Superior Platinum (15)
brush - Fendrihan Classic Pure Grey Badger
soap - Anointment Shave Soap
post - warm water rinse, DSA “Pure & Natural” alum, cold water rinse
aftershave - Avon Wild Country Aftershave Conditioner
music - streaming Gem Radio New Wave
After giving the Anointment Shave Soap some grief the other day, mostly for its pointless coarsely-ground flax seed and appearance, I thought why not give it another try. I had been using just as a hand soap to use it up. It's unscented so it didn't appeal to me as much as any of the others. I've had at least two years more experience in making lather since I last tried it for shaving so it couldn't be any worse.
In the first photo I had just finished jamming it into the lather bowl and added some water to bloom it while I took a shower.
I keep thinking that it looks like a fried egg with a really bad yolk.
It turned out pretty good after all. It collapsed sooner than I'd like but it has lots of residual slickness, which is the most important criteria to me. It was so slick that it took about three times as much rinsing than usual in the cleanup to get it off the bowl and off my fingers. Some of the flax seed chunks got into the lather but they didn't interfere with the shave to any degree that I could tell.
Results: a DFS, with only a teeny bit left that I can feel on the tip of my chin.
Could be the blade starting to show its age.
PS. I would've gotten this post done sooner but, to my great surprise, there was a Stanley Cup Final game on tonight, with the potential for Tampa Bay Lightning actually winning the Cup because they were ahead 3 games to 1. These are the Finals that were delayed from last Spring. It was tied 2-2 at the end of the third period, and went to ten minutes into the 2nd overtime period before the Dallas Stars scored a goal. So, Dallas lives to play at least one other game. It was odd seeing all those empty seats except for team officials and wives and girlfriends.
I stopped following hockey 30 years ago but I could not resist seeing how it ended tonight. Let's say I watched it as a tribute to my late father, who was a rabid Leafs fan.

We could be Heroes, just for one day.

The SynBad is an excellent knot.
I noticed you used Penhaligon's Juniper Sling. In case you didn't know, Ariana & Evans released "London Gin Club" that was inspired by Juniper Sling. It's a beautiful fresh fragrance as well as one of the best soap bases money can buy.

Yes, that was my first use of the SynBad knot and, as you say, it is excellent. It looks fantastic set in Tim's (Knothead) handle.
Juniper Sling is a wonderful scent and pairs with Stirling's Gin & Tonic Shave Soap in the best possible way. When it is time to replace it, I shall definitely take a look at Ariana & Evans London Gin Club. Thanks for the tip.
