World Barber Day!

Well, how about that! I visited my barber today for a long overdue buzz-cut, now that he's back from a holiday in Greece. We were talking about this and that, and the conversation came around to straight razors and shavettes. I was thinking of buying one, just to see if it was for me. Yadda-yadda-yadda, he offers to lend me one of his shavettes to try out. It was one of those no-name inexpensive stainless ones.

Here's what came of it.

blade - 1/2 Astra SP (1), then Derby Extra (9)

I mostly selected nice dependable favourites for hardware and software, instead of following my usual rotation.
The Henson was on the bench in case I chickened out had a change of heart.
I rehearsed without a blade just to see how I'd probably want to hold it in different areas.

Thirty seconds into the real thing, I end up like this, plus two more tiny weepers farther down my jaw.


I felt like one of those "Academic Fencing" guys at Heidelberg University.
This called for a liberal application of the styptic pencil, which pretty much took care of it, to my surprise.

Okay Henson, you're up!
I ended up with a nice comfortable (everywhere else) BBS.
It could be a while before I try it again (if ever).
