The GEM Junior may be my new favorite single edge razor. I hope the MMOC doesn't get jealous.
And Speick just made for an epic shave that was followed up nicely with some platinum. Have a great day!

There's been, among many of us at "foroafeitado" and "sin corte no hay gloria" (the two Spanish forums where I participate) some kind of "reconciliation" with the multi blades. In my particular case, it happened because I had to fly to Germany for a short trip and was travelling light, with only hand luggage. Needless to say, there was no place for a classic safety razor or double edge blades in my -small- suitcase, so I brought a couple of Gillette Sensor 3 disposables. I put in good use all the knowledge and technique that traditional wet shaving has taught me over the last year. Good prep, good soap, no pressure, WTG, XTG, ATG (if required) and got very good results. Shaves were quick, easy and confortable. Not as close as with a double edge, I have to admit, but close enough for a working day and far, far away from those horrible, burning shaves on canned foam from the old days. The multiblades were back, and were here to stay. So I ordered an old NOS Gillette Sensor that should make it home in the next days, and yesterday, the mail man brought me this little beauty. A '79 vintage Gillette Contour (known as Atra in the US, as far as I know). This was the razor of my teenagehood. My first "own" razor, as my first shaves were with a Gillette G II (Trac II at the other side of the Pond), and there was some sentimentalism involved in having it back, needless to say.

Today's shave with this old friend was glorious. The blades are sharper that those on the Sensor 3 and are not spring mounted, so you have much more feedback from the razor, which is quite encouraging so as to go easy with the pressure you exert on your skin. On the other hand, it has all the benefits of a modern multiblade that will "Contour" around your face, and in addition, it leaves some room for you to play with the angle. All in all, three passes in the established order, for a surprisingly efficient, confortable, irritation free and close shave.

All this would have not been possible without the help of the outstanding soap from Manuel. A unicorn already since it has been discontinued, and IMHO, the only vegetal based soap that performs as a tallow based one.
