SOTD MONDAY MORNING, SEPTEMBER 14, 2020

Although it’s a bit gloomy this morning, my shave was gratifying. I’m really liking my new Feather DX. I switched back to a Proguard blade and discovered that the shave was every bit as close as it was with the Feather Super. So that’s that! I prefer the Super in my AC safety razors, and now know I can use it in my DX. My preference is for the Proguard in the latter though, as it is designed to prevent horizontal slicing, which shaky old me is prone to. Day 3 of the G7DC was an unmitigated success with new learning. Choking up on the handle of the Paul Revere did help a great deal, bit there was still one crevasse on the back of my dome with just the hint of stubble. So I tried something unique and different. Grabbing the DX by the blade with both hands, I was able to, with the lightest touch, and a fair bit of anxiety, remove that recalcitrant stubble resulting in a velveteen shave for both mug and dome without resorting to one of my AC safety razors. I feel fresh and finally velveteen!

RAZOR: Feather Wood Handle DX Barber’s Razor (Mug), Schick Paul Revere L Type Safety Razor (Dome)
BLADE: Feather Proguard (Mug), Schick Injector II (Dome)
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by Argan Oil
BRUSH: MrEE Knurled Aluminum Handle #007 w/ Hybrid Knot
CREAM: Nancy Boy Signature
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brushsqueezings followed by Humphreys Lilac WH and Osage Rub. Finished with Pre de Provence Bergamot & Thyme Balm and Argan Oil.

Pre: Hot Water Splash
Bowl: Captain’s Choice ceramic (the workhorse)
Brush: Elite Razor burl w/HMW 26 mm (PLUSH soft goodness)
Soap: GD Chypre Conifere (great, great soap)
Razor: WR2 1.15 W/WRH2, basic polish (see below)
Blade: Personna Red (3)
Post: CC Venture AS & Nivea Cooling Post-Shave Balm

Commentary:  I am starting to get a sense of why many DE enthusiasts speak so highly of the more aggressive shaving tools like the Wolfman razors.  My older skin is not what it used to be, but I really like to shave each day.  So, I’ve been settling into a “mild on two days” and “aggressive on the third day” pattern.  Having shaved with the Timeless bronze 0.38 for the past two days (which is a fantastic razor that provides a CCS.BBS shave), the WR2 1.15 on the third day results in a fantastically close shave.  The WR2 requires attention and demands careful technique.  While I’m not there yet, over the last eight months or so I’ve improved enough to learn how incredible the shaves can be with a more aggressive razor.  So, I have genuine appreciation for the fanfare over these razors.  Certainly not the only pathway to a great shave, but a very impressive tool, and never a dull moment.  [That sounds like both a “goal” and a “slogan,” dunnit?]
Happy shaves to all!

How about a great big "Shout-Out" to an artisan, who has stayed true to her formula.
Someone who doesn't constantly "change", just to change.
Someone, who's soap is fairly priced and offers EVERYTHING others offer for much less.
Michelle Burns at Mystic Water.
Thank you, Michelle. Your soaps are magnificent and your scents are sophisticated.
You, madam, are a true artisan.
Have a great day!

This is why her soap is the only one I use, now. This is a very nice compliment, Joseph.  Happy2

Sept. 14, 2020 - Sunday Fresh

Prep: Hot Shower
Brush: Jefferson Unicorn Ivory B8
Razor: Gillette RFB Tech
Blade: Gillette Platinum (3)
Lather: Declaration Grooming - Dayman - Soap
Post Shave: Declaration Grooming - Trismegistus - Aftershave
Fragrance: Declaration Grooming - Albizia - Eau de Parfum
Last Evening's shave

Return back to the RFB after trying it out a couple times before. I was not too impressed with the feel of an open comb razor initially. However, the razor feels very much like an Tech - mild and smooth for all passes. I stuck with the platinum blade here but will likely try a Feather blade to get better shaves (as I have with the other vintage razors so far). OC was fine yesterday - I think I prefer the feel of a solid plate but that might be because I'm used to it. I'll give this razor a go for a week or two.

Albizia is a lovely scent that I'm enjoying quite a bit. For a sunny day out, even though it was cooler outside, this scent is clean and refreshing. It's quite 'green' without any prominent floral notes. Not too strong or overpowering either. Overall, a great mix of products and my skin is decently smooth this morning.

Have a good Monday!
