Well I was all set to go with the Autostrop/Hacked GEM when the Injectomatic arrived in the post. What's a boy to do? Why take two they're small. One on each side. What a marvelous shave. I'll reassess after eight hours but initial impression is equally close BBS. Completely different in character, the Autostrop/GEM giving lots of tactile/audible feedback, the PAL/Chick almost none ("Is it working??"). No issue ATG on the chin with either. Two great razors. Two radically different experiences.

9.15.2016 .. The Ides

Warm Water Splash
Martin de Candre Original Shave Soap
Morris & Forndran Blonde Badger
Fromm Special Round Point
Scrupleworks Vegetable Tanned Horse .. 60/60
Bloc Osma .. as a proof
Witch Hazel
Ogallala Bay Rum .. Limes & Peppercorns

A lot going on in today's shave...

I chose this razor, which once belonged to my Father-in law, because it is a great shaver, and a well known entity to me. It was touched up on a new to me, La Nouvelle Vein coticule ... just the finishing stages to see what the stone is capable of. A very keen and smooth shave .. so much so that there was no alum sting whatsoever .. a bit unusual for me!
The third try for MdC soap. I hit it right and am starting to see what all the fuss is about. Whipped up by one of my top two brushes .. a Lee 7 Fan in Blonde Badger .. A phenomenal brush!
While I'm not a huge Bay Rum fan, I love the Ogallala.. the scent a little toned down, and my face feels great afterward!

All in all, a very successful outing!

Blade: GEM by Personna PTFE (1)
Brush: Muhle Chrome Plated Handle 31 M 89 w/ New V2.0 Silvertip Fibre Synthetic.

Excellent three pass shave this evening. The new V2.0 Silvertip Fibre Synthetic is a high quality synthetic fibres, developed in house by Muhle of Germany. The tips are tangibly soft, long lasting which whips up a creamy rich lather. The handle is made of brass are first nickel plated and then refined stylishly with chrome.

Much smoother shave with my familiar handle.

Great shot 120inna55.  Happy What are your thoughts on that soap?

It's very slick and creamy.  It has excellent post-shave, particularly for my scalp.  My skin seems to get softer as the day goes on.  It feels great immediately after the shave, but it seems to have a delayed peak.  When I first used this soap, I thought it was a fluke, but I've come to discover it's a characteristic of this formula.

Van Yulay has 2 "hybrid" soaps.  Hercules is  with emu oil and Aquarius is vegan.  The hybrids were a mistake in their lab that ended with good results.  It's not melt-and-pour glycerin, but there is considerable glycerin in these bases.  However, they also have characteristics of traditional soap, hence the "hybrid" moniker.  With these 2 bases, you choose the fragrance you want from a drop-down menu. It's recommended food-type scents be reserved for Aquarius because Hercules contains honey that will possibly sweeten the scent a bit.  I wanted a pure black coffee scent, so I chose Aquarius as it's going to keep the scent in the most pure form.  Also, my experience with coffee scented soaps is that they often have cream and sugar accompanying them (or worse, hazelnut).  PAA's Spring Heeled Jack was my favorite for being able to pull off unadulterated coffee, but it transformed a bit after using it.  VY's "Espresso" in the Aquarius base is now my favorite coffee-scented soap.  It's a legitimate, dark roasted, smoky coffee.  The splash has ingredients that do add a bit of creaminess, but that can't be avoided in a splash with such contents.  It's quite enjoyable.

I highly recommend either of these "hybrid" soaps.  Many snobs (myself included) would avoid them because as first glance, one may assume they're just dressed-up melt-and-pour, but that couldn't be further from the truth.

Thank you for taking the time to do this review.
